Is your machine set up to boot from the optical drive? Many people take the ODD out of teh boot sequence to speed things up a bit.

Be sure to back up your personal stuff, a format/reinstall will likely erase the entire hard drive.

yah, keep a close eye on the startup screen that pops up when you first turn on the machine, you'll see a note there telling you how to get into the BIOS.

you might not even have to change any bios settings. usually on boot you get a quick option to press a key to enter bios or another one to enter a boot menu. try the boot menu and select cdrom.
