I am running into some issues with VPN (virtual private network) on vista64 and found there is a specific vista update which seems to fix the problem. But when I was about to download the update, I was asked to run genuine windows check to prove my vista is a legal copy. But whenever I run this genuine windows check program, I receive a long error message said there are some technical difficulties...blah blah blah.. along with an error code of 0x80070002. Btw, windows auto-update works fine, but I checked my update history thoroughly and this update I need wasn't in there.

This is starting pissing me off as I have a legal copy of vista 64 that came with my G50VT-X1. The specific update I am looking for is :

Anyone could help me out here? this is absurd that a legal vista copy can't run this stupid genuine windows validation program

    Thanks in advance!!!

Thanks for your timely response, Gregory! But I tried the solutions in the link, it didn't help at all, I still couldn't pass the validation, same error. Thanks for your help though. This is getting ridiculous, I have to troubleshoot this stupid error in order to troubleshoot the VPN issue.

Try this troubleshooting procedure: (Be sure to start the steps after "For Windows Vista and for Windows Server 2008, follow these steps:")

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956698

It's accomplishing the same thing as the previous link, but by a different method. If it's no more fruitful, contact Microsoft by clicking "Get Help Now" in the lower portion of this site:

If you were trying to run validation in IE, try Firefox instead and vice versa. I've had sometimes troubles with Firefox not downloading the necessary components but doing the check in IE fixed the problem.
