I used to run refresh all the time, but what do you know since installing 8.1 it says 'cannot refresh, installation media required' or some such. Problem is I upgraded from windows 7 pro and I don't want to install 8.1 again. Is my only option to re-install 7 and upgrade to 8 with the windows tool?

edit: apparently this is a known problem, and seems real shady on the part of MS.

I just downgraded with the w8 install tool, pretty easy. Ironically 8 feels like an upgrade over 8.1.

just letting you know that you wouldn't have to "re-install 7 and upgrade to 8 with the windows tool" either way.
