in Dan Brown novel 'Digital Fortress' the guy uses plugs in some thumbdrive and keylogger is auto-executed...and records the keystrokes from the computer.

is it possible to create a portable keylogger which when plugged into a computer (which allows autorun) ...can record keystrokes without needing to install the program?

i live with some friends...and wanted to know if they mess around with my laptop while i m gone.

p.s: if i am breaking any forum rules...pls delete the thread.

Just password protect your PC with no guest account. Win+L will lock your windows session, but let apps still run in the background if you need it.

    Windows BitLocker? TrueCrypt?

But honestly... if you lock your computer with no guest account that enough unless you expect your friends to take the computer apart in which case I recommend a machine with a TPM :) & use Bitlocker on that - but if you are that "careful" then why leave the laptop out in the open in the first place?

I also think what OP is looking for is BitLocker with a USB drive key logger.
After reading DetlevCM's post, I've become curious whether a locked computer can be attacked via the Internet.

    Answer yes:

    Reasoning:
If you leave it at the log on screen it will connect to a wi-fi network, and if you run a website, this will run even though a user is not logged on.

    So the answer is yes.

If you want to be certain.

You're router will have a firewall which will help to some extent.

If you want to be really safe ;) shut down, unplug, remove the battery :D

I am quietly closing this thread; keyloggers can be used for malicious purposes and we don't want anyone sourcing information on where to find or use one from these forums.
