I'm not real familiar with Vista, and really don't remember XP too well, but I think you can roll back the drivers. I'm using a Linux machine at the moment so can't check the exact procedure for you, but I'm pretty sure you use Device Manager, find the drive and if Vista is like XP, click on driver and then roll back. If this doesn't work, perhaps System Restore can fix your issue. Good luck.

Again, from memory only, so sorry if this isn't exact. My Computer - System Properties - System Restore - go back to an earlier date at which time your system ran properly.

Unless you're able to uninstall and then reinstall completely the drivers/firmware, the only other idea that comes to my mind would be to try a System Repair. Before doing so, though, you should wait to see if any other of the folks here posts with a better idea. I don't use Windows anymore, and may have missed or forgotten something that another might think of right away.

i just tried uninstalling the drive and restarted my computer hoping that windows would install the drivers itselft and it didn't so i'm back at square one. If it helps when i go to my device manager and click on the drive in the device status it says "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"
if anyone one has any suggestions please help!

Are we talking about drivers or FIRMWARE here? The OP said he had updated the FIRMWARE with the wrong version. So why are we mucking about with drivers??? The original action may very well have bricked the drive. The only hope here is to attempt to load the CORRECT version of the firmware.
