I am trying to dual-boot Windows Vista and Windows 7. I already know how to partition, install, etc. The thing I don't know how to do is after the first restart after copying and expanding the files, do I start up Windows Setup or do I start up Windows Vista Home. When I choose Vista, it tells me that the instillation didn't work. If I choose Windows Setup, will it continue installing on a separate partition or will it overwrite Vista, which I can't have it do. Thanks so much in advance!

As long as you specified the partition for installation as the correct one, then Windows 7 will be installed there. I had no problems installing Windows 7, it even sorted the bootloader out so I didn't have to mess around with the bcdedit thingy that I had to do when Vista first came around.

I just installed W7 beta x64 two days ago, like you, with Vista, but in a seperate partition. I remember some trepditation too, at that prompt.

To the best of my recollection, I just went ahead with the W7 install.

Of course this is predicated upon you having picked the correct partition to begin the original W7 install.

FWIW, I partitioned using Vista, then did the W7 install from DVD in the new partition. All went fine, and I had a running W7 dual boot OS w/i maybe 20 mins or so later. Once the W7 install is complete, you will get a dual boot screen option everytime you restart where W7 is the default if you don't do a selection in a specific time period, perhaps 20-30 secs.

    Good luck!

Edit: Ahhh....looks like andygb40 beat me to it!
