    Hi,
I have disabled hibernation in my laptop but I'm seeing this hiberfil.sys taking up 2GB, can I delete this and gain some space or I shouldn't touch that at all.
    Thanks.

Install WinDirStat, and look at your root directory. From there, you can use the program to delete the hiberfile.sys.

If you didn't run that (elevated) command string and reboot, you have not disabled hibernation properly. I think you simply changed your preference in the power options.

Run that command, reboot and that file should be gone.

Thanks guys, I just leave it for the time being. WinDirStat warns me that deleting .sys file may damage OS. Thanks again for your help.

You did notice that the link I provided is right from Microsoft?

No need to leave it if you don't need it.

Click the Start menu button, type cmd and right click and 'Run as Administrator' (or, simply hold CTRL and SHFT and press Enter/Return to get an 'elevated' cmd prompt).

    Then, simply type/paste:

    powercfg.exe /hibernate off

And you'll have safely turned off hibernate properly.

    Good luck.

make sure you're in elevated command prompt (cmd.exe - right click run as administrator). Then use powercfg -h off

Yes tiller, I used your link(Fixit) and still the file is in C:/. I have tried manually with the cmd prompt(run as admin) still no joy. I'm going to bite the bullet and try using WinDirStat and delete the file and see what happens.

EDIT: I have tried WinDirStat as well with Admin rights but I get the message "You need permission" .

Hmmm, in that case, I would enable the hibernation file and see if you can get Windows to re-link it.

    @ elevated command prompt:

    powercfg.exe /hibernate on

Now, reboot - see that hibernation works at least once, reboot once more and run the command again:

powercfg.exe /hibernate off and reboot. (It should now be gone).

    Hope this works for you!

Hey! So glad I'm stubborn (this time).

I really believe that if you squash the little bugs/problems; you are really avoiding/averting bigger problems in the future.

(If this hadn't worked for you - I would have suggested a clean re-install!).

    Oh! You're welcome, btw. :)
