I have used ''Sunbird'' for a while, works well, and is simple to use.

The included software with VISTA and OSX seems pretty good, and I think microsoft office comes with callendar software, not to sure if open office does (free alternative)

i have office 2000 and XP, don't see the calendar software though. Sunbird sounds good, is it light on the resources? I hope it isn't one of those programs that runs a process even when it isn't being used.

Just use google calender. It's fast and easy to use, plus you can access it from anywhere.

I use my Windows Mobile device for Calendar, Task, and Contact management. It syncs with Outlook.

Rainlendar if you want it on your desktop, Sunbird if you want to run an entire application.
