Ok, I just spent 29 dollars on my campus buying ultimate.

I have vista on my desktop and laptop but i couldn't pass up a legit product key for ultimate for 30 while i'm here.

My question is this, it is an upgrade disc (they didn't mention) and it's also for the 32 bit version.

I was under the impression that ultimate cam with both versions (x86 and x64?). Is this wrong?

Also, can i just use the product key with an "obtained" (ahem) copy of ultimate full install? I want to do a fresh install without all the hassles of doing it with the upgrade disc (I recall reading that this is possible with jumping through some hoops).

    Thanks guys.

i'm sure your campus has a server with vista iso's on it. Least my campus did back in the day for xp. We were given xp keys as part of the course and we're told to download the iso's from their server. But really yes a ultimate iso would work. Just not the sp1 loaded one as it may cause problems when the real SP1 arrives.

Yea, i can dig up a vista install disc.

The key is fine for it though?

I mean, there is no difference between the product key for and upgrade or a full install? Could i use this key for 64 bit?

i think so, since you purchased a key, then you should be able to use "vista ultimate" no matter how/where you get the iso/installer from

That was my line of thought. Damn windows licensing is so freaking complicated.

    Anyone have any contrary opinions?

I am almost positive that your disk is an upgrade disk, because my university sells them $20 each.

MS this time made the key, namely upgrade/retail, to be different; therefore, a upgrade key will only be able to be used if you "UPGRADED" your system from xp or a previous version of Vista.

However, there's a way to clean install using upgrade disk, basically your clean install without key and then upgrade the new "install". Google it up for specific steps.

Thats crap. I'm taking it back and seeking "alternate" methods.

Shame on my school for lying about what it is :)
