    Hello NBR people!

I have a problem with bittorrent and windows internet explorer and mozilla firefox, i think there is some kind of conflict between bittorrent and the webbrowsers cause everytime i start it the webbrowsers stop working. I just get stuck on loading pages screen and nothing comes up.

Have no idea what to do, checked so bittorrent is not using port 80 but i'm not really that good at computers so does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks!

    Best Regards,

    Philip

I suggest you go to your clients forums, and ask there,
torrent discussion isnt allowed on NBR.

Do the pages lock up the moment BitTorrent opens, or is it when it starts making lots of connections?

BitTorrent can kill your bandwidth! I'd suggest you set the amount of peers it will connect to at a lower number. That is assuming it was the later answer to my previous question.

    EDIT:

Really? That seems a little excessive in censorship... I only use BitTorrent to download legal stuff... But I guess I can see how discussion of it could get out of hand.

Set the maximum download and upload speeds to 80% of your bandwidth.

May be the torrent is taking the whole bandwidth and using resources by checking the downloaded files etc.

Lol, BT will take your available bandwidth, that`s why.
I am still looking for a way to prioritise, and make the the browsers have priority over BT...haven't found one yet...

in bittorent check for a green circle with a tick mark in it at the bottom....which wud say 'ur connection is working the way it shud'....if it is yellow or red then either ur software firewall or router firewall is blocking it....just enable UPnP for ur router....and I normally have my firewall off and antivirus on when browsing with torrents downloading or uploading in the background (and i dont browse dirty sites for that given time frame) :D....although it is a bit slow but sufficient enough to watch HQ vids on youtube....even though I have a 2MB/s connection.. :p

I use the client bittorrent. It isn't that the client eats up all my bandwith, as it can be that it only downloads in 0.2kb/s and all webbrowsers die. It happens the moment i start the program, not sure if it is when connections open up but after i've opened the program the only way to get web browsers to work again is by restarting the computer.

It doesn't matter if i'm already browsing either, it is like webbrowser just lose internet access. The webbrowsers just get stuck on loading screens, so for example if i click on a link nothing on the page changes and it just says in the status bar "Looking up [insert web page]" or "Waiting for [insert webpage]"

Thanks for all the quick responses!

    //Philip

PS. I read the forum rules and it clearly states that discussing illegal activity is strictly forbidden, i'm not using bittorrent to download anything illegal, and having bittorrent installed on my computer is not illegal as far as i know. But if this question regarding a compatibility issue between vista and a program is in violation of forum rules then i would appreciate a moderator informing me, as after i've read the forum rules and i don't come to that conclusion.

Try uninstalling DNA, the program that comes bundles with BitTorrent. See if that cleans up your issues.

    I'd try Deluge or uTorrent.

I uninstalled the DNA bundle thing that came with bittorrent, made a marginal improvement, giving me 15 seconds of working webbrowsing after starting bittorrent but then the webbrowser died again.

I'll just uninstall this and try another client i guess, thanks for all the help! really appreciate it. Have a good night to all europeans, and i guess to US residents good day to you! ;-)

This is more your router's problem, not really the BT client nor the web browsers.

Most home routers are not designed to handle well with heavy BT usage. A lot of routers will cause web browsing lockup or slow down when BT is active.

    What's the router you're using?

I'd suggesting going to the router's forum and see if people are having the same problem too. You can also try different 3rd party firmware. For example, DD-WRT or Tomato firmware are very popular among Linksys and Buffalo users. If don't feel comfortable with 3rd party firmware, you can also try to see if the manufacture has any new firmware of their own, sometimes updating the factory firmware might help.

I'm using a router called TrendNet, don't know if it is that well known. I'm connected by cable to it though. I updated firmware today with the latest from their website. But thanks for the tip, i'll be sure to check around if anyone else is having same problems.

I would strongly recommend Azureus - uses ONLY one port for all connections, making it easier for a router to handle. And in my opinion it's one of the two best torrent clients around (second - uTorrent)

I just did a quick search on TrendNet with bittorrent and found this, I'm not sure if you've the same model and if this info will help you...

I ve got the sky 2 mb/s connection with a sagem router....and the bittorent client is on 24/7 because I am seeding most of the time....never ever had a problem with browser lockups and stuff....I had to enable port forwarding and all with morpheus and limewire....but bittorent adjusts itself easily if UPnP is on....and 'Svarto' try switching off the firewalls next time and see if that makes a difference....

you need to forward the ports to your router.

    Thanks for all the replies!

I fixed it the easy way by switching over to uTorrent which fixed all of my problems. Even downloads go a lot faster now and i get a little green ticked box saying that everything is working good (on Bittorrent i got a yellow box).

I think there must have been some clash in my router between web browsers and bittorrent cause it is not a very expensive router :)
