What is the best free screen sharing app? I want to help a friend of mine on his computer. I was considering just using remote assistance with teamspeak but would like to use something a little more interactive.

Will Windows Live Messenger let you share one's desktop?

Uhh. SKYPE! Do you want to just watch your friends desktop? Or do you also want to control it?

Logmein can work if you don't disable the keyboard/mouse and leave the screen on. They also recently launched join.me, which looks like it might be what you're looking for, but I don't know much about it tbh.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Well, we basically want to collaborate by looking at some websites and a couple apps on his machine and I would like to take control of his machine from time to time. I have Win 7 Ultimate, he has Win XP Home SP3.

Teamviewer, definitely. And when I last downloaded it, it was also free, so long as it was for "personal use" only--eg.: you aren't using it to update folks' computers for pay or whatnot. I have a friend in Washington State who is seriously computer-care challenged; I use Teamviewer to go into her system and tidy things up about once every five or six months and it works wonderfully.

Thanks guys, Teamviewer seems perfect. I'm going to give it a go tonight. Just tried it locally and seems pretty good.

I've used hamachi before, but isn't that more for vpn? I've used it for playing like a LAN game (C&C Generals especially).
