32-bit and 64-bit don't seem to be fully compatible.

Can anyone recommend a good recovery program that works on a 64 - bit OS?

    I don't mind paid versions

Like when I tried installing O&O Disk Recovery, it refused to even install on Win 7 64 bit, and I certainly did not want to even try running such a critical utility in compatibility mode.....not too comfortable

That was a Windows 7 issue more than a 64-bit issue

What are you trying to recover?

Generally speaking, the program is irrelevent as long as the program supports the file system. Never tried O&O Recovery, but most 32-bit apps will run in 64-bit mode..the website says it should work.

Now, as for the best file (UN)deletion/recovery program, we need to know how you are going to use this and what you are trying to recover.

For example, for a major recovery while many recovery programs will let you install them on a windows disk you are trying to recover from, you should never do this. You should install recovery programs on a different machine and remove the drives from damaged machine and mount them in the other machine before attempting recovery.

For simple, oops, I didn't mean to delete the files in the trash bin that I should never store files in but I do anyway, there are a lot of freebies that you can use here.

Most will work for simple ooops, undeletes.

For recovering files and partitions from a hosed harddisk, I find testdisk is the best free one. For recovering files from truly hoarked up disks, I find Ontrack EasyRecovery to be the best--it works where others even testdisk have failed.

Recycle Bin > right-click the file > Restore

    Oh and it's free. ;)
