    Hi everyone

I'm wondering how everyone backups there data as I currently don't have such a great method I don't think.

First, I have my C drive base ghost image (which has xp, office, etc). Burnt on DVD & a copy on the desktop at home

Second, I ghost my C once and week, as over time I install loads of rubbish and this gives me my quick recovery. Again burnt on DVD/copied to the desktop

Data: currently with my data on the weekend I'll do a full windows backup of my data and during the weekdays I'll do an incremental. Again these are burnt to dvd-rw, I rotate my dvd's once a month, so the oldest backup is 4wks to recover from.

Mp3's, I just have a copy on the desktop. Can't be bothered burning 30+gb's onto dvd.

software collection: backup to dvd once a week (just fits on 1 dvd)

    1. How does everyone backup there data?
    2. Why oh why did my laptop not come with a dual layer :(

I don't backup my stuff much, and if you have 80GB worth of things on your laptop and 60GB of things on an external HDD, you will never think of backing them up. Only when i need to format my computer do i transfer some of the more important files in my laptop to my desktop, and after formatting, they come back.

    this is what i do:

i partition my hard drive into two.
    1) windows xp and all the programs and games needed to be installed
    2) i put all my documents, pictures, music, etc.

but i also have a separate external just in case my hd dies

I have a similar system to azntiger

I have a separate partiton that has all of my documents, music, etc. If i want to backup any of the hdd, I use Nero and create a DVD. I never back up my windows partition, only my spare partition.

I don't do anything fancy to back up my files.

Every week, I create a new folder on my external hard drive and copy all my data into it.

Sometimes, I also stick it on a DVD-R.

    Pretty simple!

This is pretty embarrassing, especially for an IT guy, but I don't really backup my files. I have Gigs of stuff I need to backup, but never do. I just seem to buy new HDD's when I run out of space. :D But, on rare occasions I go out of my mind and backup my data to DVD.

I use Acronis True Image to make an image of my C drive, its way better than Norton Ghost. It makes an image twice as fast as Ghost. I have a few Hard Drives and a backup partition on my laptop. I do once a month backups of the stuff on my backup partition with because that has all of my real important information. The programs and music I just backup when I feel like it. I use Nero to burn DVD backups.

Acronis is a great utility. I use it myself.
