I was wondering which is a good Video Editing program to use aside from Windows Movie Maker. I am looking into making some AMVs. If you don't know what they are, disregard that. Essentially I want to put many different video clips together, add effects, transitions, and music in the background.

Some of the potential ones I've come across are:
    1) Cyberlink Powerdirector
    2) Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 8
    3) Sony Vegas Pro
    4) Adobe Premiere CS3
    5) Ulead Video Studio 11
    6) Roxio Video Lab 10

as well as a few others. Can you guys give me a recommendation of what program is good to use? If you have made any works such as AMVs of your own with any video programs with effects, etc. Please link them.

I have used Adobe Premiere and Pinnacle Studio (both at work / home).. unfortunately I dont have any videos in a place where I can link them to you.. its more personal n work related so I don't know if the others involved would be happy.. I will ask around though and see if I can find something I can link to you.

Adobe is really professional kinds and very nice to use. Best part I like is it has lots of templates built-in, which makes it easy for amateurs / newbies like me to work around with less headache.

Pinnacle is more easy to use and the best part I like about Pinnacle is that it has lots of these scene transitions and its really nice.. as for professional editing or corrections, I wouldn't recommend this but for basic stuff, yes, this is good...

I have Roxio from very recently but haven't used tried video editing in this, though my lab mate did and he said it takes time to get used to it, but once you do, its really nice and user friendly. Cheers

    Adobe Premiere.

Or Vegas if you think Premiere is too difficult.

Once I get a new laptop I'd like to try my hand at AVCHD video editing.

I've read that Cyberlink Powerdirector is pretty darn good (might be the best out there right now).

I've also read that Adobe Premiere does not play nice with AVCHD.
