I frequently (that is, 2-3 times a year) format my hard drive to get rid of the bugs in Windows and I'm getting tired of having to backup my files manually every time. What is the best Backup software out there? Thanks in advance,

I totally agree with Jim. I've restored twice with Acronis in the last 2 years and both have been fast and accurate.

Depends what you are really wanting to backup, I don't know if Acronis can do partial backups because you really won't want to backup everything (like windows, because that's the point of you doing the format).

Thanks for the quick responses guys!

I've already tried Acronis, but it destroys the point of formatting since I have to backup the system files too. This is the problem with most backup software, they backup everything. I've been looking for something that routinely (i.e. once a month) backups the folders you specific.

What I have is a Acronis backup of a clean install of all my apps, games, windows updates, Etc. Then I have Acronis backup My Documents, my email folder, and a couple of other folders every week.

Then if my system is still usable when I need to reinstall everything I will have Acronis do another backup of just those files and folders. Then boot to the Acronis CD in safe mode and reformat the drive and install the first clean backup I have. After that is installed I have it install my recently backed up stuff. Takes a hour or so but is a heck of lot easier than the day and a half it used to take me to reinstall everything from scratch.

You could try an open source package called FullSync.

Also, is backing up to a DVD better than to an external HD?

    Happy Holidays!
