Because it gives very accurate battery life measures based on keeping a statical trail. Win7's battery meter is based on instantanous consumption, giving wild fluctuations in estimated battery life. BatteryBar be how I wish Win7's battery meter worked out of the box.

I rarely buy software (Go Openoffice!) unless it's either very specialized or there's a student discount but $2 for a great program like this? Can't beat it!

The only reason why I want to but this, is because Win7 power icon says that my system is about to shut down any time, despite having 4 hours of battery life. That is the problem when you follow percentages of wear level, instead of total time. Because of this error, Windows refuses to give me how much battery life I have (in time), and you have the icon flashing and annoying me.

I don't see this as 10$ software, as getting the code to know how much battery life left by time or percentage, is real easy:
Its' all here: Power Management Functions (Windows)

The big part of the work is the interface and taskbar integration. That is what I am willing to pay 2$ for, just because I am too busy to do it myself.
I'll buy it tomorrow, it's too late now.

This software is not worth it for the 10$ price tag, due to the activation system. Waist of time, and to me it degrades the software value.

You're right that reading the battery isn't very complicated. In fact, the class that reads the battery information is only about 290 lines of code, which is currently about 1% of the total number of lines in the application (include the P/Invoke code adds a bit more code, maybe another 150 lines).

Actually, the taskbar integration is only about 800 lines of code. The user interface, including all the dialogs, graphs, etc., are the biggest chunk of the code, to be sure.

The first version (1.0) basically just read the battery info, and displayed it on the toolbar with a built-in basic theme. It really wasn't all that complicated, though I did add some code to soften the changes in time remaining by averaging it over time. The newest versions use a completely different calculation method.

What you may not understand is that BatteryBar's time remaining calculations are not done the same way as Windows (which, as you say, is very simple). Instead, there is a much more complicated system that tracks the actual time the battery lasts and averages it over time. Additionally, it calculates the ratio between estimated time the battery should have lasted during the current session and compares it to the actual amount of time that's elapsed, and adjusts the time remaining accordingly. It does falls back to the "basic" method when there is insufficient data about the battery to make a battery estimate (like when you first install it). Once sufficient data has been collected, then the improved time remaining is displayed.

All of those features above are available in the Free version. There's no need to pay the $2 if you don't feel it's worth it.

The Pro version adds all sorts of power management, notifications, graphs, themes, and other things to adjust the way the software works. These extra features are what you get for the $2 or $10 or whatever you want to pay.

I certainly appreciate your feedback, and I hope I've helped to clarify any confusion you may have had about the application. You may wish to look at the website for a more detailed list of differences between the Free and the Pro version.

If you have any issues or suggestions, please let me know on our forums or by replying to your purchase confirmation email.

If I use a software that I like, weather or not I need the pro feature, you have my money.

Yes, I did notice you do calculate your own way the battery life of my system.
I don't have the latest version of battery bar installed, in fact it's a friend that give me his previously download executable file (ver 3.1 (yea old)) when he got to together once, and this is how I know your tool. Well you have to thank Windows 7 for that, as explained previously (for my case). However, one thing I did not like, the algorithm is waaaaayyy to safe. It tell me I only have 30min left, when I have 1 hour and 30min left.. and in fact... I have 1 hour and 30min left. I am sure you improved this, I haven't' tried the latest free version, but you'll get my money.

I just hope that the activation system does it once, and not every time I turn on my system or even minute or something useless, and over the top like that. Because if that is the case, then I'll wait for the next version that has that fixed, and when the price comes down from the regular price.

I appreciate the feedback, especially from a fellow developer.

It's true that the custom algorithm is difficult to adjust to work under so many different systems and circumstances, but the system does learn and adjust over time. In the Pro version (3.4 and up) you can see a graph to show you exactly how it calculates the time remaining.

If you buy a license key now at the cheap price it'll work on all future versions.

BTW, I think your Nv GPU is pretty slick. I downloaded and installed it. I was always bothered that my nVidia GPU would constantly run at full speed even when idle, while my ATI cards would constantly adjust their speed for reduced power consumption.

Thank you. Wait you get a load of what is in the works on the next version! :D Just be a little patient though... I am at university, and don't have much free time.

Thank for the donation, you'll get my e-mail shortly. I just woke up :)
