Baffling Outlook problem. 272 emails vanish, for no apparent reason.

I have a MSI GT80 Titan. I use Windows Outlook for mail, and my email server is my ISP. The last time I checked (earlier this afternoon), I had 1200 emails in my inbox. I just turned my computer on after being asleep, and I now have 928! I did not delete anything, and have not the foggiest idea of where those 272 emails went. I don't even know where or how to start addressing the problem.

I'm pretty sure this happened once before. I had a mental note of how many emails I had in my inbox, and the next time I checked I thought I was way down, but I wasn't certain. This time I am positive of what took place. Any ideas?

Did you actually check the email in its site outside of outlook to be sure they are there? I'd start there

Is your Outlook Account setup as POP3 or IMAP? If it's POP3 then once those emails are downloaded on another device (ie. a phone or any other device) they will be removed from the server.

Thanks for the replies. It's IMAP/SMPT. I just checked my email using ISP web login instead of using Outlook, and it mirrors my Outlook, 924 emails, and 354 in trash. I'm not computer savvy enough to know what this means, but it does seem to hint the problem or issue resides on the ISP email side of things rather than a problem with Outlook. I honestly don't know how I can determine if important emails are missing, but there was one other interesting clue. The latest part trash folder is populated with some 354 messages that are blue, i.e., not read, yet the earliest part of the folder are virtually all read. It's almost as if hundreds of unread emails were automatically transferred to the trash.

very weird, never had such an issue with Outlook. I'm betting it's a glitch on your ISP server's side and would lodge a complaint with them regarding this case.
