My autoplay has always been kinda screwed up - see the screenshot for details. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I think those setting are in the registry, so have you tried to use system restore to go back to when autoplay worked? Also do the MS applications & photoshop launch the desired application ?

He says it's always been like that, so there's probably no Restore Points that help. I have seen this kind of thing a lot myself, and it's typically caused by shoddy installers (from Adobe, Microsoft, and others...). As JOSEA said, there's no easy fix, and as I recall the registry edits are not trivial. Best I can do at this point is advise the OP to Google it, and see if he can find a helpful site. Make sure you have a Restore Point before you go into the Registry, however. Like I said, this isn't going to be easy to fix.

Probably there were couple versions of Office and Photoshop installed.

I would uninstall both (i would also use uninstall tool but just have it already) and reinstalled again.

Have you tried rebuilding the icon cache?

You can try that with the following inputs in command prompt (might have to run it as an admin, not sure, it's been a while since I did it):
    Code:
    ie4uinit.exe -ClearIconCache
    taskkill /IM explorer.exe /F
    DEL "%localappdata%\IconCache.db" /A
    shutdown /r /f /t 00
This will take care of deleting the icon cache, stopping the processes that use it before deleting and restarting. Windows should rebuild it at boot.
