    Hi there

I have an Acer Aspire 4315 that I am upgrading.
It has a stock 1.7ghz single core CPU and I have been given a 2.50ghz one from a friend. It fits perfectly.

However, when i try to boot, NOTHING happens. So i am assuming the BIOS needs to be flashed.

I am running 7 on it now, and unfortuantely on the acer support site http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_4315.html

you can see there is no BIOS update for Windows 7.

Will the Vista one be suitable?
Because I know if it goes wrong the computer will be a brick.

    Thanks in advance!

BIOS is BIOS. XP, Vista version simply means that it would flash under the mentioned OS.

What is your current version? Does the newest/latest version allow you to run a higher CPU?

You need to read the bios update notes to see what they changed from version to version. It it doesn't say anything related to adding support for any new processors, you are probably out of luck.

The 1st thing you have to find out is if Acer sold this laptop with the exact CPU you are trying to install... only after you made sure the CPU will work should you go ahead with the BIOS flash... did your laptop come with Win7 or was it installed later? I only ask because Win7 options were not listed in the Acer support site. Find out how to do the BIOS flash in a DOS environment as it's much safer... in any event your 1st step is to research whether or not the dual core CPU is compatible with your laptop before you get ahead of your self with the BIOS flash...
    Good luck.
