Just wondering if anyone still uses Firefox 1.5 ... usually i like to stick with older versions unless there's really something wrong with it or the latest version is Exceptionally better. Anyone know how Firefox 2 does on rescources compared to 1.5?

    Thanks

I cannot tell the difference in terms of resources used...so no difference as far as I'm concerned. But there's a boatload of nice extras now...definitely worth the upgrade.

No, I've switched to FF2. There is a slight difference in resource usage. I believe 2.0 uses a bit more (10MB?) than 1.5. However, this difference is insignificant and 2.0 makes up for it with, as night_2004 said, a ton of great new features.

I have also noticed it is much more stable. It rarely crashes, and when it does, next time you run it, it'll ask you if "you'd like to restore the last session." If you so choose to, it will load all tabs, history, and anything else from before it crashed.

I'd highly recommend upgrading. There really isn't a downside to it. I wouldn't worry about it being a new version, because there aren't any bugs.

Firefox 1.5 is reaching it's end of life. This means there will no longer be support for it. Do upgrade over to FF2.0. Well worth the upgrade.

I agree. I upgraded to Fire Fox 2 when as soon as it came out. I have no regrets.

yeah upgrade to Fx 2.0 because it has some nice features like:
    (1) Spell checking for forms (really helpful when posting a reply
    (2) Re-open a tab you just closed(right click- undo closed tab
    (3) After a crash, you have the option to bring back everything you had open at the time of the crash.
    and other great features.

. currently testing/using the next FF - under the code name of Minefield :)

    I am currently using 2.0.0.3

I enjoy the use of a spell checker, 'undo close tab' and 'restore session' features. But I know I am not paranoid when I say FF 1.5 was noticeably faster :wideeyed: :eek2:

May actually go back to 1.5 is I decide its not paranoia

Yes, FF2 has brought about some nice new features, but from my experience (ver 2.0.0.2 only perhaps) FF1.5 was rock stable, and FF2 was unreliable at best. Just my personal experience though. ;)

I just upgraded my last rig to 2 today. It has been running 1.5 for ages, but my wife liked a new theme that was not compliant with less then 2.0... so I loaded her rig with 2.0. It is an older rig, and I noticed no real slowdowns. My other computers are all quite new, and I rarely notice such small resource usage on them.

Hmmm. can anyone else confirm that FF 1.5 is faster?

What about the latest version of Internet Explorer for XP. How does that stack up against FF 1.5 and 2.0 ?

It is crap. That is my opinion, but CNET agrees with me. Fire Fox 2 is a superior product.

When the newest Explorer came out for XP I DL'd it onto my newest XP rig, which is only about 6 months old. It locked up the computer. The subsequent removal of the newest IE and reinstallation of the prior version led me to a MASSIVE slowdown on page loads, and frequent lock-up of IE.

Frankly, I don't care too much, since I always use FF, but sometimes when a page doesn't load in FF i have to have IE, which is a major drag.

    From their website:

I usually hate moving to new versions unless it's absolutely required. I think I might just let the current version run until April 24th and the updater telling me to switch

well, being that Firefox is open source, there could be a community group that sprouts up that backports any crucial security holes to the 1.5 source tree. but no, there won't be any official support for it.

my personal gripe with firefox actually has nothing to do with FF, it's with Adobe's flash plugin for linux. it's a buggy pile of crap. if I'm watching a flash video and I navigate between pages or close a tab if the video isn't stopped or finished, it locks up. FF does its best to restore my session, but flash is a real burr in my butt.
