Hey guys, today, I dual booted my laptop. I found all the drivers for XP and find it as a better OS to use. I'm probably going to keep Vista for now, but in the future, how can I get rid of Vista and just keep XP?

    Thanks in advance.

To truly get rid of it completely, delete the Vista partition entirely, boot from the XP CD and hit R to go into recovery console, then type the following commands:
    fixboot
    fixmbr
    bootcfg /scan
bootcfg /add (and add the XP installation it found)

You can then stretch your XP partition to fill the whole drive, I would use GParted for this.

Wait, so would that command delete the entire Vista Partition?

No... you can delete the Vista partition from XP's computer management > disk management snap in (right click My Computer, click manage, click disk management, right click the Vista partition and choose "delete").

The other commands rebuild the XP bootloader. If you just delete a Vista partition when dual booting XP and Vista, XP usually won't boot anymore because you've also deleted the Vista bootloader. You run those commands to make XP bootable again.

If you want to reclaim the disk space that Vista was using, then format the partition instead of deleting it. Then it'll still be a separate partition but you can use it to store data.

Unless you want to combine the partitions... then in that case delete the Vista partition and use a third-party program to move/extend the XP partition to cover the whole space... but that's more trouble than it's worth IMO... I'd suggest just living with the two partitions, it's easier and it doesn't hurt anything.

Or you can delete the Vista partition and leave the space empty so you can install a new OS there... it depends what you want to do with the space.

Eh, I wanted to extend the XP partition to cover the Vista partition. I don't think it would be that hard...

In that case, delete the Vista partition, back up everything important on the XP partition, and then... I think gparted can probably do it, if you want to burn a gparted livecd or something.

To delete any OS, go in the other OS, delete the Vista partition, then go Start > Run > type msconfig.exe and under Boot delete Vista.

Delete the unwanteed partition and expand the XP one using Gparted, then follow the advice from maxima1274 above.
