It does look good. I am waiting a bit before I get it. My wallet still needs some healing time from my laptop.
PSCS2 does everything I need right now. Maybe when my wife lets me get 1DM3 then I will get CS3.

Yeah it is nice. But what annoys me about Photoshop is that most of the updates are for features that I never use. Like I use Photoshop 7 right now and if you ask me there is no significant "loss" to the Photoshop CS2 that my school's computers have.

Does it feel like it's the case that everyone but professional photographers/graphic artists are the only ones who will appriciate the new features of Photoshop CS3?

I mean, for the everyday person who maybe only plays around with Photoshop for fun, 500-600 dollars isn't really worth it.

Which is why I use the Gimp which is free and works quite well for my needs.

adobe did a pretty good job with the cs3 video tutorials. they made a site with a whole bunch of vid tutorials for newbies about layers and all the other crap.

It's all about marketing i see. lol. if one is resourceful and enough and creative (the long way of course), he can even do it with PhotoShop 5 or 7.

They're not free, but some of the best video tutorials on the web come from Lynda.com.

I can't wait to try out CS3, as I've heard a lot of good things about it. Maybe it's time to use my education discount in the bookstore!

I recently tried Paint .NET, and I was pleasantly surprised at how good of a Photoshop replacement it was. Unless I need the added functionality of Photoshop, I may be sticking with Paint .NET for a little while.

i have been playing around a bit and it seems like a lot of improvements but something i really like is how they changed the left side bar so its flatter and longer. i know its small but is gives you more space its great.

Im not too intrested in much of whats changed, only signficant thing would be the smart filters. A convience but not a need, you can always achieve the same effect in CS2 with history snapshots or keeping copies of your image.

But sombody said it loads faster :p

This has my attention, can anybody confirm? (also maybe thats just due to support for multi-core cpus... I have a AMD Opteron 148 wich is a single core so thus no benifit for me)

yup, ive been using CS3 Extended for a lil while now and it dry loads in abouts 3secs.

CS3's customizable i-face palettes is the best yet. The best thing is new raw edit features. Thou CS3 Extended has some 3D editing tools i havent even begun to try them out yet

GIMP is good, but you can't expect to use it professionally for print.

That's because the Gimp doesn't have CMYK support native. There are a few hacks around that, though. For almost all photo-editing and end-user stuff, the Gimp is more than adequate, and the price is always right ;)

the highest CS3 goes for 999$ USD MSRP....

I dont think there are many photoshop users with a legit copy tho :p

Its simply too expensive for a normal home user to justify.
