This is a continuation from a previous post. I only created a new thread because it doesnt seem to get attention after it is answered by more than 1 person (which makes sense, I'm not complaining). This deals with backing up my OS with acronis true image 10 on vista home premium.

"So I tried that Acronis out and it works for the whole backing up and stuff. I went to go try and test the bootable dvd and i got to the screen where you choose full or safe restore or whatver and everytime I choose one it takes me to a blank screen. Am I supposed to insert the backup disk at this point or did my bootable dvd have something wrong with it? Thanks."

    Any ideas?

What hardware are you using? and are you using the latest version of Acronis? (True Image seems to be stuck in March 2007). The bootable disc must include a basic operating system and it may not be up-to-speed on the latest hardware (I can test this when I get home in a few days).

I got annoyed by Acronis a month or two back when it wouldn't clone a dual boot Vista / XP HDD. I bought Casper which did the necessary without any difficulty. However, while Casper does imaging, it makes another bootable disk.

Which DVD is that? The Acronis disk? A separate DVD you made with Acronis? A Vista Boot DVD?

    You have to be specific.

Try booting from the Acronis disk. Once Acronis is loaded into memory, pop out the Disk and insert your archive disk. Then proceded with the restore.

I have used Norton Ghost for years. Give that a try if you can't get acronis to work.

Maniax, create another boot disk but use a CD. See if that works.
