    Heya!

I am wondering if there are any programs that can detect the temperatures of an external harddrive? Speedfan doesn't seem to recognize it as a drive and HDD guru said it isn't supported; any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks~

If it is a USB hard drive, there is no way to access that information short of cracking it open and putting it in a desktop.

eSATA drives should show this information.

I could have sworn hdtune did it...but then I change harddrives like some people change underwear so I could be confusing different episodes.

Can either FireWire 800 (1394b) or FireWire 400(1394a) do it? or only esata can do it (imma try hdtune for the heck of it)

HDtune does try to read the temp, but its inaccurate.

I am not sure about FW. eSATA uses a hard drive's native SATA interface and is just a passthru between the PC and drive, so that's technically the best method to use a hard drive.

But it reads that from SMART info.
