I'm trying to download the Internal Virus Database update and it won't connect. I'm just getting this...

It never times out or anything. Just sits there. Any ideas?

Well it's a new fresh install. I think the problem has to do with LiveUpdate which hasn't been able to connect for some reason so my Internal Virus Database is out of date. I tried http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...?Open&src=tranus_con_br&seg=&om=1&om_out=prod and it did not seem to work. Should I uninstall Norton alltogether? I'm worried about doing this because then I won't have any anti-virus running unless I just use the AVG which isn't updating. I plan on stopping using Norton soon though and just using AVG so maybe I should just do it?

Avg was getting a little buggy with me too. I ended up going with Kaspersky instead but many have switched to Avast which many think is better and is also free. Maybe give Avast a shot or at least try it out and see how you like it. Just a suggestion.

Had the exact same problem with AVG. Tried all their suggestions about firewall settings etc, but nothing helped. (and of course, I was connected to internet)
Gonna get Avast now to try, glad I found this thread. Still have the MacAfee on that Dell provided (as a trial?).
Did Avast work for you, Cygnus311?

Try updating through a file on the HDD (there's an option somewhere there)
Have you disabled any of the default services of the program, it has a specific service running in the background for the autoupdate thing.

Are you running both Nortan and AVG at the same time? Im not sure if that would directly cause the problem u are having, but its not reccomended to run 2 anti virus programs at one time, it could lead to trouble down the road.

do you have a firewall running while trying to update AVG? If the Firewall isn't allowing AVG to connect to the internet as an exception, then that would cause your problem too. Not sure if either of these suggestions will help you, bbut i figured I'd give my $0.02.
