Hello, ill be beginning another year at college soon and I'll need to be able to run autocad 2015 for urban planning. I have a 4 year old laptop (acer 4820tg) with a core i5 and the HD 5650 and a 240ssd will I be able to run the software smoothly? If not I'm considering a new laptop, thanks!

Is there perhaps a trial you can download to test with?

Autocad is pretty much single threaded and the GPU doesn't do a whole lot unless your rendering. What speed is your single core i5 at max turbo?

If it's over say 2.5ghz you should be fine unless your doing 3D town planning which I doubt. If it's just tweaking and editing os maps you'll be fine.

In the UK we can get a free copy of autodesk software when studying. Look into that and DL and try it out. It'll have a watermark but that's completely fine while your in college. When you get a job ask your IT guy to get you a home licence as you can get a free one of those from Autodesk as well.
