It keeps opening on its own! It pops up on startup, saying "Please enter a password" in an error message. I close it, and within 15 seconds, it opens again, and the error pops up again, moving AOL to the front of the screen! I can't get anything done! How do I turn off this stupid feature, or at least get around it? Thanks.

I f********* hate AOL. Worthless. Garbage. Resource hogs.

Anyway, figure out the process name by opening up the task manager.

Then hit start, run, type msconfig, go to startup, and find ALL of the AOL processes and shut them off.

Hit start, run, regedit. Delete anything and everything "AOL".

Finally, rid your system of any AOL .dll or .exe files. Wipe out everything AOL!!

Try going to Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections tab > select America Online in the Dial-up and VPN settings window and hit the radio button that says "Never dial a connection" and hit "Apply". This stopped it on my notebook because AOL would try to start up before my wireless connection completed.

BTW, I'm trying out a new beta of the AOL software called "OpenRide". It's not nearly as aggravating as 9.0 SE.

I have the best solution for you. You open up add remove programs and then remove anything that has "aol" in the name. Lmao, that doesn't really help you but I just HAD to say it.

Yeah, water has the possibility for electrocution, I'd stick with a blow or something like that.

Ohh! Heres a new idea: use holy water in your liquid cooling system. "Keep your computer cool with the power of god."

Heh, guess you gotta expect these kind of replies given AOL's past rep. Unfortunately some of us are kind of tied to it from years of use. Too much personal info, mail, etc.. invested into it before it became the ugly, shambling thing it is now. The best place to find answers for issues like this are on AOL's own help pages, which are actually (surprisingly) somewhat helpful - useful information and no fear of ridicule.

Take your HDD out of your computer, get a very powerful magnet(Neodymium Magnet) and pass it over your HDD a few times, then rip it to shreds, crush those shreds to dust, and after your done doing all that buy a new HDD and make sure you never put AOL on it again. AOL is a virus in my book.
