    Issue 1: Missing Data!

my total harddrive size is 297 and i have a free space of 107GB, this means that im using 190GB of space, but that doesnt make any sense... i have 55GB of music, 12GB of Pictures, 31GB of games, 22GB of programs which adds up to 120...

im sure theres a bunch of random hidden files all over windows but 70GB worth??!?!? where is all this stuff and can i clean some of it out?

    Issue 2:
    Merging Partitions!

I just got my Antec MX-1 external enclosure in the mail which im using to convert my primary harddrive in my now dead desktop into an external for my laptop. the setup was easy and i installed it fine but i ran into somewhat of a nuisance. I had 2 partitions, one small one for windows and a big one for everything else and when i plug in the external i get these same partitions when i only want one big one. Ive already formatted the partition i had windows on, but i cant move any data off the other partition because this is the place i back everything up to.

is there a way to merge these two partitions without moving the data off the drive or risking data loss?

EDIT: im running Vista Ultimate 64-bit by the way

System Restore at work, most probably..

Right click the drive > properties > disk clean up > more options > delete all system restore points but the most recent one. So you can have the latest restore point but delete the rest

To see how much is being used, you can run commad prompt as an admin and type in

    vssadmin list shadowstorage

And this will show you how much is the allocated size for restore points, how much is being used and stuff...

Thanks, that took care of about 30GB of it, 11 are still being used for my last restore point...

as for the partition issue i found this page with a tutorial on how to do it http://www.winvistaclub.com/t11.html

problem is the partition i want to get rid of is on the left of the partition i want to merge it with, which supposedly means i cant do it without special software... does anyone know an appl that would do this??

GParted can do it, with the unfortunate side effect of possibly mucking up your Vista install.
