I have installed 64bit vista ultimate and cannot get the fn + screen brightness keys to work. Also in device manager there are 2 "system base device" that require drivers but i don't know what they are!

When i try to install easy display manager (the one for vista from the samsung website) it install then a box pops up and says "StartService failure! : unknown 1275" the a second box "unable to install driver".

Is there anything i can do other than revert to a 32 bit version? :(

At the moment my screen is stuck on the lowest brightness with no way to change it!

It does sound like you need drivers for those function keys. Does the Samsung site have 64-bit specific drivers? Did you put on Vista 64, or was it pre-installed. If it was pre-installed you would think the drivers would be as well. Did you receive a driver disc?

No it came preinstalled with XP Pro, but before purchasing the laptop i rang samsung to confirm if the drivers listed under vista were 64 bit compatible and they said they were. Now it looks like that was incorrect.

Just got off the phone with Samsung Support and they are now saying that easy display mamager is definetly not suported under 64 bit OS.

So it looks like i'm out of options, I am going to have to revert to 32 bit until Samsung bring out 64 bit support.

Just a bit gutted that the 4GB of RAM i purchased was a waste of money (well 1 of the sticks). :(

Have you tried looking in device manager under monitors check the properties then click driver tab and see if you can update the driver from there. It might help but I'm on an XP machine at the moment so can't double check that is the correct way to get to display drivers. If I remember correctly it will give you the option of connecting to Microsoft Windows (update or something) to check for new drivers.

There might be a generic display driver that would allow you to adjust brightness. Windows Update come up with anything? Try googling it, and see what others in this situation have done.

Try rebooting and going into the BIOS. Once in the BIOS, try to change the brightness settings. Often the Fn keys are handled at a lower level than the OS, and maybe you can get the brightness up if you go that route.
