I had this problem before, but didn't bother looking into since I was about to install Windows 7, but even after I did a clean install of Win 7, I still have this problem:

I use Auslogics Disk Defrag and did a simple defrag. After it was finished, it said I still was 40% fragmented (down from 46% originally). When I look at the file report, it shows a lot of big System Volume Information files are locked.

How do I defrag these files?

    Thanks

EDIT: For some reason, according to Windows Disk Defragmenter, I'm only 1% fragmented...?

Auslogics and Windows Disk Defrag don't use the same defragmentation API, so they defrag differently. Personally, I think Auslogics is crap. Just stick with built-in Windows defrag.

The files under \System Volume Information are, mostly, your restore points.

They cannot be defragged under Vista and Windows 7 AFAIK.

Your page file isn't sorted in \System Volume Information
