More then likely no, chances are it will come with the 32-Bit version. Most manufacturers don't offer 64-Bit Vista unless you specifically ask for it.

depends, most companies install 32-bit unless specified that you want 64-bit OS, some sell you the retail version and give you both cd's :s

Some customizable laptops have the choice for higher versions and thus getting the 64bit versions, but for any machines bought in stores you do not have a choice in what you're getting.

But my question is, why do you care/want 64bit Vista? It is well known that the 64bit versions have much more compatibility and instability issues than the 32bit version. Also, there is no benefit in getting 64bit Vista that might outweigh its cons. Until software comes out that takes advantage of 64bits, then there is no need for 64bit anything as you will simply run 32bit apps in a 64bit OS with a 64bit cpu.

I was just wondering. The laptop I have my eye on says it comes with Vista, although unless it turns out I really like Vista I might well stick XP on it instead....

If I buy a laptop today with the 32 bit vista....can I later simply upgrade it to 64 bit....like a year down the road? Or is that impossible?

    thanks

It is possible if you have a core 2 duo or amd x64 cpu. But you need to buy Vista 64bit, the serial that comes with your laptop wont work.

And you cant use Windows upgrade. You need to reinstall.
