I'm starting to get agitated now because at first my crappy microsoft mouse (optical, corded) stopped working randomly and will randomly work when I restart the computer or wake up from sleep-mode.

At first I thought it was the mouse, then I tried a different mouse (Microsoft Optical Blue, wireless) and it started working. Then after sometime, the mouse refused to work again until I restarted/ wake up from sleep-mode.

My dad's logitech is doing the same thing.

I dont understand. I tried switching it to a different usb port ( I have 4 ports, I tried all of them and they all do this). I know the ports are working because I'm able to transfer files to and from my phone and Zune player.

So is this an OS problem that I randomly came across from?

I should note that the wireless mouses DO CONNECT and it shows on the screen that the "Usb driver has successfully installed" message, but it doesnt register a single movement.

Turn off "USB selective suspend" in your current power scheme's advanced power options. Chances are this is your problem.

BTW the plural of mouse is mice, not mouses :)

USB Selective Suspend is on by default in the Windows 7 OS, you have to choose to turn it off. For me personally I've had issues with it on only 1 of my machines in the past, but the rest have been fine. Sometimes it just doesnt get along with your current USB hardware. If you still have problems, try to see if theres a USB driver from the manufacturer available, or if theres a power settings in the BIOS that might affect USB.

I turned it off and maybe 5-10 minutes later my mouse wont register a movement.

    Should I restart or something?

AFAIK there isnt a driver for these two mice (the microsoft one) and I given up on the logitech as it seems to my laptop rather than the mice. These are just plug-n-play devices.

I'll check the BIOS to see if theres anything there.

Edit: I should note that the laptop makes the "disconnect" sound, you know when you take out a usb drive, it makes the ding sound or w/e? The mice makes that sound a couple times and then its up to chance whether the mice will stay connected or not.

I'm this close to jsut reformatting my entire system because of this annoying problem, I tried disabling the usb suspennsion option, I tried unchecking all the options in my device manager that had "allow this computer to put this device to sleep" and nothing works....

this article is the closest I found to my problem and no one has a solution.

    Constant Hardware Connect/Disconnect sound
