Hello everyone, I just joined here because I purchased a gateway mt3705 notebook with windows vista. I'm sure I'll have a bunch of questions but for now I just have a couple. The notebook comes with a McAfee internet security suite but it also has gatewayshield, comprehensive security suite. should i disable one of these when I get the notebook. Also, it comes with a McAfee PC Protection Plus2007. Should I install this? Thanks in advance, I really want to keep my notebook safe.

Being that you are running Vista, you don't for the moment have a lost of choices.

McAffee and Norton consume a lot of resources and dig deep in the system's file structure.

You will get bloatware with your laptop, which is a lot of software that is included in the default installation of your Gateway. You should sort out which ones you want to keep and remove the rest.

For Internet Security I highly recommend Kaspersky IS, which is now also Vista capable

Yeah whenever I get a new computer I always do a fresh install or sysprep it. I'm tired of seeing my Internet explorer with some supermarket favourites or their logo spinning around.

I saw one of my friend who bought a computer off a supermarket. It doesn't even look like a laptop anymore. Screensaver, wallpaper all have their logo. When you open IE it defaults to their shopping page. It uses an active page wallpaper and basically you can shop while your using your laptop.

I don't remember the exact spec but it definitly wasn't so bad. At least it got 512 memory. But when I checked the memory usage there was less than 100mb left. That is impressive when she only had msn and IE opened... But there were like 70+ process opened with useless software.
