    Hi.

I'm running Vista Home Premium. My hard drive is partitioned into two NTFS areas (I originally had dual boot with Ubuntu).

Having freshly installed Vista in drive C, I installed MiKTeX et al. in drive E. However, I simply cannot associate any .tex files with TeXnic Centre - when I go through the "open with" procedure Vista simply refuses to add TEXCNTR as one of the "other programs".

Any ideas how to solve this problem? (It's association is with Media Centre at the moment - how on earth did it compute that? )

    Cheers,
    dr_98_98

I'm not familiar with TEXCNTR, but I know that you can associate .tex files with Vim or Emacs without a problem. Perhaps you can explore those options if TEXCNTR doesn't work out.

Tex files are plain text, you can edit them in any text editor such as Notepad.

You can try using File Type Manager to edit the file associations.

Take a squizz at this webpage that discusses how to associate file types with a particular program in _Vista.

Did you point the TeXnics Centre at the right MikTeX directory?

It may be an idea just to reinstal the TeXnics Centre.
