Is it worth getting Winamp and decoder to use the .FLAC files?

Is the false trojan alarm really "false"?

you don't need winamp, just the FLAC frontend decoder and you can make them .wav and then do what you want with them. i download alot of live shows which come in .flac because the artists don't want it compressed to mp3 and distributed easily. i personally prefer .shn though.

Can they be played on their own though? Cause bringing them down to .wavs would make them take too much space...

I use JetAudio. You can get the basic version here. I got the plus version with my iAudio X5...

It won't do a few things that the plus version can, like convert to MP3 (but it'll convert to FLAC/OGG and all the less common formats). It plays back a plethora of codecs. I like it.

once you have it in .wav, convert it to something like a 320kbps mp3. frontend also has a winamp plugin and since winamp 2.x (my preference) only takes up 5 mb at most, it shouldn't be a problem.

There's also media monkey which does everything if you're looking for an all in one media player (check out download.com for it)

I prefer Foobar1999. It seemed like a better year. Of course, I am a man of nostalgia.

There I go with my dry humor. I'm not "in the know" (as some would say) on what dry humor actually is, but I like the way it sounds.

As for FLAC files, I would convert it into an MP3. I can't convince myself that the space consumed by the file is made up for in terms of quality. I am not very knowledgable in the field of file conversions. I would just use dbPowerAmp with the FLAC plugin and convert it. kidA seems to know more about this, though.

I would have to agree with iOsiris. Just get Foobar2000. It's a free, open source program and it will be able to do alot of conversions for you too.

Agreed with Foobar2000. Simple conversions to MP3 at ~190kbps VBR using LAME, to WAV, etc. And it'll play the FLAC files for you as well.
