I have a slight problem with Limewire. Whenever I start windows, Limewire will automatically start up within a minute or so. I double-checked to see that it was set 'not' to start when windows starts. Then I did a spyware and virus scan and removed a bunch of spyware, but no viruses. After the scans, I restarted and it still started up. I then uninstalled it, and reinstalled it. Still happens. If anyone thinks of any other solutions, please let me know.

    Thanks

Check to see if it's in your startup folder.

I just did a registry scan and restarted. Did not work. I checked the startup file, It was not listed in there, or any of the contained folders. Thanks for help though.

Go into msconfig and see if it is listed on the startup tab. I personally use Bearshare. I have never had a problem with it stating by itself as long as I unchecked the box saying start when booting.

I will try to clarify this.. sorry for not doing this on my first post [ ;)]

    - I first start up windows...
    - I then start my normal tasks which includes starting iTunes, and mozilla for web browsing...
    - After 30 - 60 seconds, Limewire will start up as the full program, rather than starting in the tray for quicker launch (start when windows boots check box)
    - I then close the program because I have no use for it right away (and its a big memory hog)
    - 30 - 60 seconds later it will start again.
    - It may do it a couple times, but then it will stop after doing the above procedures repeatedly.

It's actually no big deal, it just gets very annoying after a while[ ;)]

I finally resolved my problem.. I just recently ran Live Update on Norton and did a full scan, which took a long time. I ended up with 1583 infected files  . I then rebooted, and no limewire started up! I am relieved :D .. Thanks for all of the ideas...

Dang! You've gotta be careful where you go on the net and what you download. ;)

    Hellmanns,

If you had 1500+ infected files on your system, I'd recommend you wipe the whole OS and reload it. You never know if something may still be in the system which the scan didn't find.

    Yes,

I would have to agree, sounds like you need a reinstall, but leave the file/music sharing software off. I finally got it through to my Girlfriends daughter that the file share software really mess up the OS and dramatically reduce the bandwidth on your internet connection.

Elias, you might also want to do a scan. I know that it started after I got some stuff from you, although I am not sure if it came from you obviously. I will reinstall very soon.

I did a scan with Avast and it didn't find anything.

I haven't noticed any system problems, but my audio card seems to be acting up.
