    Hi,
    I need some help with my laptop problem. I bought the ASUS M50VN... but... as i dont like windows vista, i decided to change the OS to Windows XP SP3.
    As some of you know, this ASUS Laptop doesnt load the Windows XP Bootable CD to format Vista and install the XP because during the CD read we see a
    bluescreen error.
    Well... i searched in some websites and foruns about this problem and i found some info in Driverlot.com and in the Asus Forum:
    http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?id=20070731141139875&board_id=3&model=G1S&page=1&SLanguage=en-us
    http://forums.driverlot.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=3 - Comment nr. 6 by DriverMaster.
    Well, i chose the Asus Instructions but with a diffrent SATA Driver( http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?ProductID=2101&DwnldID=16013&lang=eng)
    because is updated and have Intel 4 Series Chipset Compatibility... and i burned the Windows XP successful... After that, i run the bootable cd and it
    worked fine.
    The problem was after the Windows XP Intalled, when the Windows XP SO is finishing the install, the System reboots to run by the first time the XP SO...
    and when it runs for the first time, the blue screen error appear. :(
    The blue screen appears always when the Screen shows me the XP Symbol... well its before that because i see an only seccound of the XP symbol and after
    that second i got the blue screen error and it goes reboot.

    What is the solution to this problem? help me fast pls

    Sry my bad English... if you do not understand it i will try to explain you it again.

    Best Regards,
    portela

    just use vista, your notebook is made for it.

    a friend of mine bought an asus and thought vista sucks. he got xp working on it, with a daily bluescreen, and not really more performance than vista (but more lags).

    better install vista and get that one working right, than fiddling with an unsupported os.

    you are experiencing the BSOD because you don't have SATA drivers on your XP install CD.
    Simple solution:
    Go to bios and change the hdd mode from AHCI to IDE.
    Problem solved.
    Once you've installed XP, install Chipset and Sata drivers ... then restart, and re-enable AHCI in BIOS.

    I did this method on my own laptop and have not been experiencing issues.
    Despite what 'davepermen' said, XP is a solid OS and you can easily use it without any difficulties on a new laptop and without any BSOD's or lags (I do).

    Just do yourself a favor and slipstream both SP2 and SP3 onto your XP install CD along with Mocrosoft Visual C++ 2008, NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1, and latest edition of DX9 in order to avoid lengthy downloads.

    Ok ...
    So going back and re-reading your post, it would appear you were able to install XP, but for some reason you keep getting the BSOD when the OS itself boots.
    Correct?

    Hm ... have you changed the IDE/SATA mode in bios after you installed XP?
    Becuase if you did, it's possible the sata drivers are incompatible after all.
    Usually, the BSOD only appears when the XP install CD is reading drivers from it before the format/install screen appears, and when attempting to boot into XP with the BIOS set to SATA mode and not actually having SATA drivers installed.

    I'm pretty certain your issue is caused by the lack of SATA drivers and switching the settings in BIOS from SATA to IDE (or vice versa) would/should fix the issue.

    If it doesn't, then it's possible the installation of XP was a corrupted one.
    I only experienced the BSOD because of lack of SATA drivers, and my laptop also displayed the BSOD when XP booted up, because I switched the hdd mode in BIOS after I thought I installed the correct SATA drivers to begin with (as it turned out, I was mistaken ... so I downloaded proper SATA drivers, installed them, then switched hdd mode in bios and everything worked fine).

    No, look my explanation... i first... tried to install XP without the drivers and i got bluescreen... I seached some information about that and i intall drivers in the CDXP and burned it together. After that, i didnt have any problem during the installation.

    ...you keep getting the BSOD when the OS itself boots.
    Correct?
    Ye, now the problem is during the OS boot(when we can see the symbol of XP with a loading bar), i can only see the XP symbol during one sec and it goes bluescreen and reboot.
    I dont know why... but in my bios i havent that all options:

    [[MAIN]]
    » SYSTEM TIME
    » SYSTEM DATE

    [[ADVANCED]]
    » IDE CONFIGURATION
    ~~~ SATA Operation Mode (2 Options: Enhanced and Compatible[X])
    >>>>>>>>> Primary IDE Master : HardDisk
    ------------------- Type (Not Installed/Auto[x]/CD-DVD/ARMD)
    >>>>>>>>> Secondary IDE Master : ATAPI CDROM
    ------------------- Type (Not Installed/Auto[x]/CD-DVD/ARMD)
    » START EASY FLASH
    » INTERNAL POINTING DEVICE
    » PLAY POST SOUND
    » SPEAKER VOLME
    » INTEL(R) VIRTUALIZATION TECH
    » INTEL VT-d
    » DTS-BASED THERMAL MANAGEMENT
    I havent more options about the hdd... say me how the options needs to be... when i install and after the install and during xp boot.
    Best Regards
    You might try changing the SATA Operation Mode to the opposite of what is selected now.
    Apart from that, I don't see any other option that might be offering modification of the hdd operation mode.
    Try running XP with both modes separately.
    Generally you can install the SATA drivers at the time when you're installing XP (by loading them with other drivers prior to the installation of the OS itself) or inside Windows.
    I think there is also a method of installing them via the usb stick in dos mode, but I am not familiar with the method in question.
