    How does one protect themselves from this scam in the first place if you can be charged £300 without even answering the call?

    I'm on giffgaff and use goodybags. I also have at best £10 credit on it to make calls to my parents in Croatia occasionally, but that's about it.
    I don't think this would affect me, as I cannot make calls if I don't have airtime credit on it to cover it.
    Which begs the question... how can one be charged £300 for non-existent calls if they have no airtime credit to cover it?

    Sure, some phone companies plans only charge you per amount of calls made, but in case of goodybags and airtime credit, I don't necessarily think this scam would work?
