IDK why LG is shipping this Korean only Dual Screen phone to reviewers in the US as that model is only available in South Korea. The V50 here in the US doesn't have the 3 contact points on the back that are required to drive the external screen, so you can't simply get a screen case from Samsung in Korea, you need to buy the phone and the screen together (seen on ebay), but not sure if 5g works on US carriers - seller's claim it's GSM will work with ATT but no details on 5g support...other reviewers have previously mentioned an LG G8 Dual Screen and an LG V60 Dual Screen - maybe for the US?, but I haven't seen either IRL...

The dual screen coverage starts here.
The LG V50 is one of the most unusual smartphones of 2019. It features a dual screen accessory doubling the screen real estate of the device. The LG V50 is also the first 5G capable smartphone I've had in studio.

The ebay seller linked above doesn't list if it supports 5g:

"Please note before buying this phone ???????
This phone is only compatible with GSM carriers such as AT&T, T-Mobile and its MVNO. Not compatible with CDMA carriers like Verizon, Sprint and its MONO. Please check this point before buying."

I just wanted a successor to the v20.

Non removable battery is a pass for me.

I feel the same, non-removable battery is a pass, but I also feel like that era has came to a sad end.

I only use my v20 as a browser, music, and some anime/media if the mediapad m3 is dead. I don't have a need for anything newer. Once the stock rom is too old I'll finally give up the second screen and get a custom rom to update it.

Extra battery and one of them shuts off around 25 percent. All I have to do is buy another battery, not a new phone.

The problem these offerings face for me is none of them make me forego rational purchasing decisions to scoop them up.

Ah huh, please whatever your trying to do just let it go...I know you have something else better to do.

Everything was fairly kosher till you went off into..."Hey, LG didn't special thing for me, and yada, yada".

Eh? What are you on about?

Goes for all my phones since the m7, which I loved. But once the battery was kaput it was a paperweight, and repairing wouldve cost more than the phone was worth. First time through its ignorance, second time its stupidity.

Replacing the battery in a phone is not prohibitively expensive, you can even do it yourself if you pick up a toolkit from ifixit, and the cost of having someone else do it is far less than the cost of a new phone.

The main problem is the OS support, and the security patches updates - which you need to do yourself unless you purchased it from a carrier - Google has mandated security updates through the carriers here in the US (elsewhere?) that have been regular on ATT for my S7 Edge now 3 years past purchase date.

The only thing I've needed to replace so far is the Samsung LED Flip case, you can't even find / buy an Edge sized one any longer.

    The battery is still fine.

The only thing that makes me want an upgrade is the size, my eyes need a larger screen now, no easy upgrade for those.

A 2 screen phone, or larger single screen size is what I am currently looking for, but so far nothing jumps out.

The ifixit guide didnt seem to exist when the battery died for me. So I went with the Note 4 which I would still be using if it didnt have a design defect with its memory controller overheating and desoldering itself. Thats how I ended up with the LG v20, not because its LG or anything, it just fit my needs in a phone is all.

Yeah I am hoping the dual screen methods mature a bit more, its interesting stuff to say the least.

Odd, after writing battery fine my battery tanked, 2 hours to 1% now a little over two weeks later. Foo.

Upgraded to Note10+ 256GB Aura Blue.

Can get $240 as trade in for S7 Edge, or replace battery and sell or keep as backup.

So, no dual screen phone for this go around.

Value in $ isn't a good measure for value. For a great backup my Sony Xperia Ultra Z is awesome, but I couldn't sell it for much $.

Do I replace it with the S7 Edge? IDK, the Sony has a larger screen, a bit slower but fast enough.

Gotta think about it for a few days. The battery replacement is an investment in keeping the phone useful and relevant - far more valuable than waiting for the battery to swell up in the drawer.

I still have a bunch of devices I keep charged up to maintain the battery, several smartphones among them, and have used them from time to time - updating the software / apps, taking them for Wifi only use. They still have value.

As long as I can get battery replacements I'll keep them running. :)
