Forget Galaxy S9 Plus - Samsung Galaxy Z CONFIRMED!?

 

Horrible idea. Why do they intend on making the entire thing a screen? What about a case? I have to disable my S7 edge apps because so many accidental swipes. I hate the edge.

 

It should be easy to tune it so that the "edge"'s only are touch active when needed, and otherwise don't do anything except display pixels... maybe there will be a "touch zone" adjustment app to fix what you describe for your hand hold, or it could be automatic as you use it and it detects where / how you hold vs touch.

There should be a measurable difference in touch for the hold vs hold + touch conductivity as well, to differentiate the hold from the active touch commands.

It would be interesting to see a case that only "touched" a "razer" edge around the phone, instead of wrapping around the phone and into the touch region - that's what let's me hold my S7 Edge with Edge's enabled - I only hold the plastic of the case Samsung put into the case around the phone.

Doing this my "hold" doesn't actually "touch" the touch screen.

Someday we will have slabs of plastic with everything inside, wireless power to run it's extremely low power requirements, so we need to work out these "touchy" bits

 

As soon as they make the glass more or less indestructible from six foot falls, and have super smart edge recognition for anyone handling the phone, I'll buy it. Until then, I'll take a bezel and a solid case. It doesn't bother me that much.

 

Well, it's gonna have all the new CPU / GPU + security features too, and I will want a case, I guess I didn't describe it well.

Remember the plastic model kits, with square "parts tree's"? They "touched" the parts only with a little bit of plastic that you would twist and break to get the part out.

That's the kind of thing I am seeing for the case for a 100% screen, not breakable of course, just only touching a thin "edge" around the phone, maybe the phone will even come with a "notch" all around the phone for the case to connect as well, making the "grip" much more secure.

 

My point is that they go through all this effort to make these thin an light and bezel-less phones, but everyone slaps a thick case on them because the phones themselves aren't robust enough to survive daily use on their own. So why not focus on increasing robustness first so a case isn't needed and then work on making it pretty. I guess I'm more function over looks. I can see this phone having a case that essentially wraps around the corners and leaves the edges completely exposed. Although it would have to be a fairly rigid material so it wouldn't flex and slip off.

 

Give me a thick phone, with some bezels, a big battery, and fries, and I'm a happy man. I hate this new trend of going bezelless, thinner, crappy battery life....

love my phone right now, the best battery life, a great camera, and a physical keyboard, and it's heavy as a brick

 

And quite honestly, like with thin and light laptops, you don't have to sacrifice much thickness to make it more robust. On a phone a few mm thicker to make it robust won't hurt anyone. Other than bragging rights. Same with thin and light laptops. Add a few mm to the thickness to improve cooling (thicker/bigger fan, thicker/more thermal pipes, etc), but for some reason vanity takes precedence over function.
