    Nice :)

In the USA we might not see this for a while yet...

Anything different enough to notice yet?

    oh my, so much

    the settings menu is revamped

now you can set a lower resolution to improve battery life and it doesn't look any worse to my eyes because it's only a phone screen after all

battery optimization modes, normal, gaming, optimized which is a balance between performance/battery life

    too many improvements to list

also the icons are now all rounded

you can also set an option to hold the home key button to quickly speak out a contact name rather than have the useless Google Now feature

The Always on display now has app notifications as well

    @hmscott

check the last line in my above post, I just remembered that

Nice, I use the Always on display and the night display, I thought they should add more stuff, thanks :)

new feature, now when you get an SMS notification, you can mark it as read or reply from within the notification

in the past, if you clear the notification, you still had to go to the SMS app and click on it to mark it as read. double work now fixed :)

Finally, the Nougat 7.0 OTA update is here in Dubai. I did a factory restore as soon as the update was installed. Very snappy!

List of changes that I can notice at least:

    1) Now you can reply to notifications immediately or mark them as read so no need to tap on the notification, go into the app, then read the message or reply, you can do it from the popup view

    2) you can reduce the screen resolution to HD. you won't notice any deterioration in screen quality as this is only a mobile device small screen but it will improve the battery life a lot

    3) Rounded icons

    4) Better doze / battery saving features

    5) New improved Always On Screen that supports app notifications just like the Note 7

    6) Camera interface is now like the Note 7, swipe or down to change camera modes, swipe left to access different shooting modes, swipe right to access different effects

This is Nougat 7.0 though not 7.1

How does lowering resolution save battery life? It's still lighting all the pixels

don't ask me but it gives massive battery life improvement.

do you have Nougat on any of your devices to test this?

    You guys know this :)

Reducing resolution reduces the load on the GPU and perhaps even some CPU, less data to handle and compute.

ahhh that explains the extra battery life I've been experiencing. Note: this was the case also on my previous Note 7

Yeah, but really *that* much? I mean I get it if the CPU and GPU are loaded but your phone is idle most of the time, and screen off.

Well, you have to be using the phone GPU/CPU to use the battery, so if your usage is mostly idle time waiting for calls then it won't make as much of a difference.

I've seen large swings in battery capacity usage myself when playing around with dropping resolution, increasing GPU use with GPU acceleration, but I was also doing a lot of screen on time usage using the phone for internet and applications, not just sitting idle.

US S7 owners will likely need to wait for carriers to approve the release of Nougat. My guess is another month or so.

@Phoenix: Did you notice slight stutters on s7 after upgrade? Should I perform a hard reset, I'm asking this because its my dad's phone. When setting up, I personally didn't like FHD and stuck with QHD.

    do a cache partition wipe

    1) Shutdown your phone
    2) Press the VOLUME UP + Home Key and while keeping them pressed, THEN press and hold the power button so all of them are held simultaneously
    3) When you see the blue screen with an Android dude, wait for him to die, you will see the Android guy image as if he's dead (seriously)
    4) wait for a few seconds until you see the options, if you don't press the volume up key once
    5) now you should see the menu options with the Wipe Cache Partition listing
    6) Use the volume up and down buttons to scroll through the menu list
    7) Use the power button to select the highlighted option.

wipes nothing, your phone will be exactly the same. Just double check you are wiping the cache partition and NOT doing a factory reset I accidentally did that once

All it does is wipe the temp cache folder for apps and their installation files.. All your apps will run the same so don't worry

your phone will feel much snappier after you do this

Thanks @Phoenix. That worked, I also disabled CPU underclock as well. I feel is much snappier w/o random stutters. UI is more fluid now.
