    Burned too many times.....

1- Note 4 - Great phone, great battery, until Samsung force fed me Lollipop 5.0.1 and deliberately delayed the update to 5.1.1 which fixed a of the initial bugs when every other handset manufacturer was on 5.1.1 in no time. Reason? They knew the Note 4 got crippled because of this update and wanted to push people to upgrade to the Galaxy S6/S6 Edge+

2- Galaxy S6 edge+ 64GB, great phone for the first 3 days, then starts to lag like no tomorrow. Then it has a major bug all over XDA and Android Central Forums where the screen would be frozen after the phone goes on standby so any touches you make don't register for a awhile, then they all register at the same time causing the phone to go crazy. Also if the phone is on standby after being left alone for a while, when you receive a call, you won't be able to answer since your swipes to answer the phone call won't register.

Samsung issued a firmware update to fix this within weeks but it didn't fix it completely.

3- Galaxy S7, Great phone, great camera, snappy, horrible battery life, had to charge it 3 times a day and I am a very light user, even barely touching the phone and all app background refresh is off so it's not the apps. Standby time on Samsung is horrible on every phone. I see this in other YouTube real reviews by Flossy Carter as well

Never Samsung! even if they make a phone that can cook me breakfast in the morning.

"On January 13, 1946, [5] the 2-Way Wrist Radio became one of the strip's most immediately recognizable icons, worn as a wristwatch by Tracy and members of the police force, and may have inspired later smartwatches. The 2-Way Wrist Radio was upgraded to a 2-Way Wrist TV in 1964."

My roommate and I were talking the other night about how Gene Roddenberry and crew really hit it dead on with technology. Final Conflict didn't have the following Star Trek did and still does but it was a decent show. I liked what I saw of it.

This would be better than their "edge" technology. Never really saw any benefit to a more shatter-prone screen...

Yeah I totally agree on this. The rumors of the Note being edge only make me glad that I got the HTC 10

I keep hearing that is an excellent phone. Looking to move to a new brand, and I have not used HTC, so that may be where I head to. How's the camera quality? Price?

The camera is decent. It isn't the best on the market but it isn't the worst either. All of the flagships have good cameras this year. The major feature is the DAC. The audio through headphones on this thing is out of this world. It also is one of the first phones to come with USB Type-C which means no more bent micro USB cables. I can't tell you how many times I had to replace those things because they would get bent and the pins didn't connect anymore. It's priced right around the other flagships at 600 bucks. Check out some reviews. I'm loving it and it's also the most development friendly device out there right now since HTC has officially sanctioned unlocking of the phone and the community has a solution to disable security which allows you to change literally everything in the phone (I converted my T-Mobile version to US unlocked so I can get faster updates and the whole process took me like an hour to do plus 25 bucks for the S-OFF code needed). HTC is a great phone if you use it stock but if you like to root and such, it easily can become the best device out there.

You had me at sanctioned unlocking! When you say unlock, do you mean just unlocking from carrier, or unlocking the bootloader for root? The latter is most important to me...

It's the same more or less with all Android phones, there is a good amount of improvement that can be gained by managing the installed applications and using tools to disable / freeze the apps drawing power.

Even with no root Android has kernel access for tools like Greenify to allow "root-like" access for controlling power drawing applications.

After a month of use, disabling built-in apps, being careful to monitor what I load, and tuning apps to reduce their power foot print, I now get 2-3 days usage on my Samsung S7 Edge between charges.

It's gotten so good I have forgotten a couple of times, and run the battery down below 25% charge, my usual "time to plug it in for sure, right now" level.
    Screenshot_20160608-153419-2.jpg
For me I don't really want root on my personal phone, it's a tool unto itself that I need to keep stable and running, which doesn't always happen when I root Android and start "tuning" :)

I have 2 other Android phones to play with if the desire arises.

I am really liking the Samsung S7 Edge, great photo's, great sound, super performance, amazingly readable clear text and video's on the OLED display.

The Edge tools are interesting, but I've disabled both Edges for now while focusing on the core functionality. I use the Always on Screen, and Night Screen - that probably helps with the run time too, as I don't need to turn on the screen to see time and charge level.

If the Samsung S7 Edge was an inch bigger it would be without complaint. Compared to my 6.4" Sony Xperia Z Ultra it seems small :)

I put the Samsung S7 Edge in a cool Samsung LED Flip Cover that has a slim profile and adequate protection. The case design gives me places to put my fingers off the "Edges", when I had the Edges enabled I didn't set them off unintended:

Oh yeah, the one thing the S7 Edge doesn't have that I wish it did, is a "Bendable Screen" :p :D

Bootloader unlock. Then you flash TWRP to the recovery partition and then flash SuperSU to get root. It's systemless root as well so you can get OTAs by just flashing the stock recovery back if you want. The exception as usual is Verizon. Verizon is a bit more complicated http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-htc-10/how-to/htc-10-verizon-root-thread-t3374323

I have my phone S-OFF and set up as a US unlocked phone. It's got later software than any of the carrier phones.

That's ridiculous battery... What's the screen on time?

Root is systemless now so you can completely unroot, still take OTAs, etc. I usually MOD what I need to and then unroot for security.

@Ethrem started an HTC 10 thread, you'll probably love disussing HTC 10 related stuff over there   o_O :D

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/htc-10.792080/#post-10265205

Although, strangely enough, when I go to the first page of that thread, it starts with post #4... no way to go to the prev/next page with posts #1-#3... first time I have seen that.

    Maybe that thread got corrupted?

The battery time is actually proportional vs my other Android phones, the S7 Edge has a larger battery so I get a larger absolute usage time, but I have been able to extend battery run time similarly on other Android phones.

I got a free Samsung Tab A 8" tablet with the Samsung S7 Edge, so I am spending time using that to access content too, probably helping the run time of the S7 Edge.
    Screenshot_20160608-164757-2.jpg
When I root I have a full set of tools to manage it, so I can run protected content and apps that won't run when rooted.

It's not the root'ing itself that's the issue, it's me fooling around with things and breaking something when I need to use the phone :)

Maybe when the Note "7" comes out that will be a good upgrade - larger screen, better CPU/memory - maybe larger built in storage - and storage expansion too.

Or, I'll wait for the Bendable Phones to make an appearance next year :)

You have an Exynos or Snapdragon Edge? Because that's just plain not normal battery life.

I didn't have any problem pulling up the first posts in the HTC 10 thread so it seems fine.

I've never used Greenify before but I just used it for all but my games.

It's the USA Snapdragon 820 model G-935A, I get 92244 AnTuTu score, and it's more than fast enough for everything I have done so far. If I could get the Exynos to try, I would like to compare runtime's.

Greenify can be used for everything, even system apps and games, as it doesn't do it's thing unless the app is idle, and there is a long enough delay to not interfere with usage.

You can exclude an app like Alarm Clocks, Calendar's, monitoring software, and anything that runs in the background long term that you don't want to get automatically hibernated.

I have the paid version of Greenify that enables more functionality.

Go to the settings and enable stuff, until you get an alert dialog that you need to enable access for Greenify, on the S7 Edge there are 2 such items.

Also, have it create the 2 icons for Hibernate Now - which does a manual Hibernate - don't touch the screen, be patient and wait for Greenify to go through all the background stuff and Hibernate them, you don't need to interact just wait for Greenify to go through the dialogs to Stop things.

The other Icon is to Hibernate + Lock Screen, same but you don't need to watch Greenify Hibernate stuff.

Those 2 tools are to catch the things you can't disable or stop starting in the background. For me they stay gone for a long time, so I only run the Hibernate Now manually a few times a day.

I try to remember to end my use by using the Hibernate + Lock app instead of the side button to turn off and lock the screen.

Be sure and Click the More button at the bottom of the Hibernate list to keep seeing more apps to mark for Hibernation, and use the More button at the drop down to show system apps. I rather disable than Hibernate, but some apps won't disable so Hibernating through Greenify is the best that can be done.

That AnTuTu score is way low for an SD820 but as long as it works how you need it to, that doesn't really matter.

As for Greenify, HTC actually did a really great job keeping usage down with idle tasks (though there is a Wi-Fi driver bug that causes it to constantly stop and start but HTC just released new kernel source today so hopefully they fixed that) but a lot of my apps do things in the background so I Greenified all of them.

The Samsung S7 Edge battery made it past 3 days 24 minutes, with 2 hours and 30 minutes charge remaining at 5%, then 4% with a battery alert :)

About 1 hr 30 minutes estimated to Fast Charge (3600 mah) when I plugged it in, it said 1 hr 21 minutes estimated in this screenshot:

    Screenshot_20160610-161444.jpg

I've now had several recharge cycles, and my last longevity test got 3 days 15 hours on battery , with 2 hours runtime remaining :)
