i usually get the best phone when they come out as they get used alot im coming from a snapdragon 845 lg g7 and this phone is alright... the first thing i noticed was how bright the screen was and then after my first scroll how fast it was i was super impressed....then i checked out the cameras and man 30x zoom really brings things closer and looks decent but i say 10x is the sweet spot and 100x shows you things close enough that you cant even see with your naked eyes.
verdict 9/10 needs micros sd support and thats the only con if you guys have questions feel free to ask as ive rambled on long enough.
some videos to check out

Don't forget full s pen support too to use the pen as a remote shutter release too.

Personally, I find the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra more interesting. Mainly because of its 1/1.12" ISOCELL GN2 sensor and Snapdragon 888 SoC in all markets. Which phone is actually better seems to be a wash between reviewers, and Samsung certainly has the edge when it comes to availability and probably software too. It will be interesting to see how Google intends to compete with its Pixel 6 this autumn—I'd love to see their software prowess combined with a similar camera setup as those seen in the S21 Ultra and Mi 11 Ultra, but given how happy they've been to reuse the 1/2.55" IMX362/IMX363 and how mediocre the ultrawide camera in the Pixel 5 is, one really has to tamper one's expectations.
In any case, it's great to see how camera innovations has firmly become the new frontier for flagships and how decent periscope setups have become more commonplace. March 2017, when Oppo first showed off their promising 5x periscope zoom prototype, feels like ages ago. It's also sad it's taken us this long to surpass the 1/1.2" sensor size of the 2012 Nokia 808 PureView.Last edited: May 2, 2021JRE84 likes this. -
also my verdict now is this phone fixed everything wrong with the s20 and the cameras are so good I cancelled my dlsr rebel order its just that good..
please read this...
i had no choice because my lg g7 went the way of the dodo but wait for the ultra 5g 22 as it will have dedicated amd graphics in some form and better cameras like alot better as they will be working with olympus.
like if you have a snapdragon 835 or better phone hold off...if you have the money then maybe -

you are 99 percent correct the 108mp sensor on the ultra is far from a gimmick this generation...you can crop to 100 percent and still have a crystal sharp image...typically though yes large mp counts are a gimmick...also id like too add 100x is absolutely 100 percent a gimmick the pictures are unusable but 30-50x looks sharp
if you want i can show you some pictures i can take a pic or two of my dog sophie....i think you would be suprised -
Feel free to provide samples, but I think the more interesting comparison would be 108 MP vs 108 MP downscaled to 12 MP, not 108 MP vs photo shot in 12 MP mode. That way, we can properly assess if the additional resolution adds detail.JRE84 likes this. -
point taken but still they are the best photos on a phone i have seen

Agreed, the S21 Ultra captures excellent photos and Samsung's image processing has become much more true-to-life. The Exynos vs Snapdragon debate also isn't very significant this time around, unlike the situation with the Note 20 Ultra. With Samsung also comitting to four years of monthly security updates for it's high-end models, things are looking up.

i watched a few videos on the s21 before buying and your right your pretty educated and im impressed
Last edited: May 2, 2021 -
also id like to add, 10x optical zoom is common with point and shoot cameras and they are huge compared to a cell phone i think 30x usable zoom on a cell is an amazing feat and won't be bested for quite some time
-
i just bought an expensive case for my s21 ultra and its by mous and after accidentally dropping it out of a jet liner joking hands it didnt even get a nick....if you don't buy one to protect your 2000 dollar smartphone your a new type of stupid thats my thoughts...and i stand by it
edit we have all seen the ads and yes its the worlds best case -
thoughts after a month
im speechless its that good....its actually hard to take a bad picture and speed....2x 12 pm -
I will take that into consideration if I ever spent 2k on a phone lol

its more expensive and powerful than my gaming laptop....lol my priorities

Only way to fly IMO. There is no phone that compares to the S21 ultra.

lol right, I just keep my LG v20, keeps doing what I need it to and servicing it is real easy. Every now and then though I get the itch, just like everyone else haha
-
Problem with me, is the itch gets scratched way to often, so I have now made a pact with my wife, and myself. Budget mobile devices from here on out. That way each phone is not costing me a grand or 3....haha.

honestly the v30 refub comes close with everything cept zoom....i say in the end 2000 is crazy for a phone but then again you all know my story....cough crazy cough
-
ok so there was a software update that improves a few things including camera....i dont know if 100x is now usable but its a touch clearer but still muddy looking....but 30x wow sharp clear and accurate colors with near perfect contrast....ill take a 30x picture and show you guys...now that 30x is usable im passing on buying the nikon p900...this camera is pretty sweet.
ok back im too lazy to post pictures but it is even crystal sharp at 60x but starts too lose image quality at 74-76x zoom...but the zoom difference is minute..i say 30x is still the sweet spot but if you really need to use your phone like binoculars i suggest 60x
also when I look across the road at a car it appears to be the same distance as 10x zoom....so i guess you could say 10x is a sham and 30x-60x is digital zoom...so technically as far as eyes can tell it really only has digital zoom which would make sense.Last edited: May 31, 2021Vasudev likes this. -

its big....very big...kinda like being an ant at the edge of a water cup...your in it and you can see the water..
you cant obviously see all of it because your a part of it but same applies to the universe
a better question would be how do we see stars yet when you are in space its a black void?
answer...
earths atmosphere and shape acts as a giant magnifying glass..Last edited: Jun 2, 2021Vasudev likes this. -
so as you can see 60x zoom has enough detail and color for a decent snap....but 10x-30x is where its at
and whats amazing isnt the zoom its the macro shots....you can get micro print so close one word takes up entire image and can be cropped in further to reveal dust -

As for the camera, the S21 Ultra may indeed out-zoom the P6P, but not having a zoom camera at all is what would have been a deal-breaker for me. Remembering back, Google's done fairly well combining 2x zoom and data from the main camera before in the Pixel 4, so I wouldn't be surprised to see a result slightly better than from typical 5x periscope cameras. Also, I'm not sure how often I'd use extreme zoom levels, and for those sub 10x zoom levels, a 5x periscope is more beneficial. It's always going to be a compromise.
My main reason to be excited about the Pixel 6 Pro, however, is that Google is finally set to replace the aging main camera sensor. Combined with their computational photography prowess, I'm fairly optimistic about the results we'll see. I also think it will deliver the best out-of-the-box Android experience for me, being a Pixel. Based on the limited information we have, I don't see any areas where it will seriously fall flat compared to the competition. Time will tell. It's all leaks, rumours and speculation at this point, but I've seen enough to be intrigued.
tl;dr: Yes, the S21 Ultra is the phone I'd buy right now and the P6P won't out-do it universally, but I think the P6P could deliver the best user experience to me.JRE84 likes this. -

well I sent back my bell 512 gb s21 ultra...im getting a 128gb through rogers in 3 days....pretty excited and its alot cheaper....I think the 512gb is for rich people...pretty big waste
-
-
i would avoid bell like the plague...its 30 days and they are almost double the price with half the service.....i called to do an exchange and they cancelled everything and sent me the money back but yeah pretty happy with rogers i actually get 5g and its like 500mbps which is nice and way better replacement plan...bell wants 500 down to replace damaged phones rogers wants 0
-

Is 128gb enough for most with the s21 ultra? I have a 64gb iphone 11 now, and I am trying to get telus to take them back as they are terrible devices. They have the S21 and s21 ultra available for my wife and I....Just wondering about 128gb of storage in it. I know it will not fill up as fast as apple since they hav ethis "other" file bull that just eats up your storage. right now, my iphone has 31gb of it's 64gb used.

Well, telus was only willing to pay 20 percent of my contract off to replace the devices. Screw that. EFFIN Apple garbage. I am buying a samsung note something or other ASAP. Hell, I may even go with the motorola G Pro.
-
after installing all my fav apps and stuff I have 64gb left for messages and pictures/videos.....I'd say 128 is enough...512gb for android is insane and pointless unless you want to record 2 day videos

yeah.
i say 128gb is the sweet spot but if you dont mind paying for or having the extra more space 256gb is tempting but who needs 400 games on their cell lol -
There's other reasons to get a bigger memory capacity such as lossless audio files vs mp3.
A lossless file is usually 25MB vs mp3 at 3-5MB. With the multiple applied you can see how 256GB would be more of an advantage.
Or using it as a secure flash drive to move files around. -
spending 2000 on a flash drive?
-
If you're spending 2K on a phone you're spending too much for the advertising hype.
I'm simply stating there's more uses than just games / music / etc.
Using these for more than the typical thought about ways is an option. Biometric protections / auto backup / etc. can be useful for other things that are vital.JRE84 likes this. -
s21 isnt hype....its the best..
cameras/speed/screen/ usefulness
i use it more than my laptop so it was worth it
also i kinda like your tangent opinions....keeps me on my tippy toes -
Camera's..... Who the heck needs 108MP camera?
Speed... of what?
Screen... 90/120hz is nice for moving things like video / games but, otherwise you don't' notice the difference other than the drain on the battery.
Usefulness.... depends on what you're using it for... it's all subjective. For me the network components are more important day to day than a overpriced camera. Speed is always nice when you're in a hurry to find something or snap a photo in high res and not have to wait on processing post capture.
It's all dependent on use / need / want / advertising though in the end.JRE84 likes this. -
name a better phone so i can have a rebuttal
