    If you mean do they expect to sell that many phones at that price, it seems like a lot of carriers are quietly returning to subsidizing phones in different ways, so the out of the box price will probably be attractive enough from most carriers to move a lot of them.

    I could deal with some lowering of that level of cost.

    People are upset about the concept of a "thousand dollar iPhone," but so long as that's the price of a loaded model and not the starting price, we're just talking about a $31 price increase over the iPhone 7 Plus 256 GB.

    it is true Apple fanboys and girls would spend that much. the base model should not rise that much, IMO.

    Every industry has its 'buy it for the logo' brand. Can't really blame Apple for marketing to people who do that.

    And it's not even terrible value; it's not like we're talking about Vertu-style pricing here. The iPhone 7 Plus is only slightly more expensive than my Galaxy S7 Edge, and you get:

    * A screen that's a half-step behind the S7 Edge;
    * A fingerprint reader that's a half-step ahead of the S7 Edge;
    * Cameras that are neck-and-neck with Samsung for best real-world performance on the market;
    * An SOC that's unremarkable on paper but a beast in real life;
    * A first-party OS that I find subjectively to be as dull as dishwater, but is arguably the best option security-wise on the market.

    That's not to say that all other phones on the market are bad, but the often-repeated jab that all you're getting for the iPhone's sticker price is the logo...it's not accurate or fair.

    It's more directed at their computers but even there, they have some fantastic displays.

    Yeah, the Apple Tax varies wildly among Macs. Certain models had horrific Apple Taxes (Macbook Air 11, particularly near end-of-life; non-retina Macbook Pro 13), but others have minimal or no Apple Tax (the iMac is great value among desktop all-in-ones).

    For iDevices, there's really not much Apple Tax; they tend to be priced against flagship Android devices and comparable (in user experience if not spec sheets) to those flagship devices from Samsung et al. And there are some that are actually ridiculously good value; the $329 iPad 5 is arguably the best value for a full-size tablet on the market right now, regardless of OS.

    Still probably going to stick with the Surface line, but you're absolutely right.
