Is there any way to change the passcode for an iPad remotely (via iCloud)?

My wife and I gave my father an iPad. Unfortunately, it seems that it takes him long enough to type in the 6 character passcode that it times out before he's able to type it in, and of course, it now takes longer and longer before it will let him try again.

I'd like to change it to something very trivial (don't bother with the security lecture, please), but I don't have physical access to it, as he doesn't live nearby, and he can't easily ship it back either, thanks to CoVID19. Can I do this without access to the iPad?

Might have to call apple on this one. Is it still registered in your name?

I registered it in his name from the get-go. I set up his Apple ID, iCloud account, and loaded a bunch of stuff on it that he's going to want, so a factory reset would not be a great idea. I regret having set it up with a password rather than a 4-digit PIN.

With COVID-19 activity well down where he lives, he's going to take it to an Apple store where someone there can unlock it (he'll bring the password with him), and then reset it to a PIN, or maybe face recognition. Obviously I couldn't set it up with anything biometric in advance.

I don't think ipads besides the new pros have face unlock.

Yeah, you're right, but it does have a fingerprint sensor (7th generation iPad), which should work just as well.

Oh, yes. It will once it's set up. But put an easy 4 digit code in too since if he misfires the fingerprint sensor 3 times he is required to enter the code. Good luck with it.
