    Well,

The "new phone bug" has hit again. Do I get an iPhone 8? Do I get an iPhone x? NOPE. I get a new LG Q stylo + and Q7 for the wife. Why would you do such a silly thing you ask? Price to feature set. You get ip68, NFC, dolby DTS X, headphone/audio jack, good screens, long battery life, decent cameras, facial recognition for unlock, and more. They both run on Oreo so thats ok too.

Comparing the Stylo to the note 9, there is nothing captivating on the note to make me spend 3 times as much on a phone. Same goes with comparing the q7 to the iPhone 8. There is nothing compelling on the iPhone compared to the Q. Maybe im getting old and cheap? who knows. But, the integration between windows/dell/android is miles ahead of IOS and windows/dell. So...lets see what happens. This should be interesting. If I don't like them, I will sell them again. I am keeping my iPhone JUST IN CASE. ha ha ha.

Honestly iphone SE on ios 12 checks off the cheap, powerful, fast, stylish boxes. I avoid android largely due to unsupported software updates after 2 years and overall inferior security. I wrote Apple a letter telling them exactly what they should do for the iphone SE successor, but of course, no response. I kept it very simple:

    1. A11 processor (or a12)
    2. newer cell modem (to improve cell speed/range/signal)
    3. better screen (resolution/color accuracy/brightness)
    4. better front/rear cameras (content creation/memory preservation)
    5. bigger battery
    6. bump up storage sizes to 64/256
    7. keep the exterior design 100% the same

It's not a hard recipe to follow, but of course apple doesn't do this, because it would cannabilize their "flagship: phones. I'm pretty sure they realized that when they released the SE, it ate into iphone 6s and iphone 7 sales pretty hard. They never disclosed that the SE for a time, was their most popular selling phone.

Agreed. I just want to try something different without chucking insane money at it. As for your comment about connectivity speeds, Apple slows their iPhones down due to differences in LTE radios being used. Go to YouTube and search iPhone X secret by unboxed therapy.

WELLLLLL, that didn't go as planned..ha ha ha...We are now owners of two new iPhone 8s and two apple watch series 3 LTE. ha ha! DOH! Couldn't be without the apple phone. tried everything in the store, including the note 9, it still felt choppy to use and the pen on the lock screen note pad was wonky at best. The iPhone is still the yardstick. I had to get the 8 since I want the fingerprint and not facial unlock.

Like all devices, out of the box they won't be tuned for peak performance, never assume correct settings are optimized for demo units, at best they turn on, that's about it.

I assure you Android has been outperforming iOS in real use for many years, side by side comparisons are available to view on youtube, and you'll find many "how to set up" Android for your version and make / model of phone.

How can you put up with that "notch" when watching video or doing anything full screen? It's an insult to all that Apple pushed this abomination to clear thinking and passes it off as a "feature".

Apple watches??? Really I can't think of a larger waste of money... :D

All joking aside, drop one set of Apples, and get a nice Note 9 or S9+ and if you must, get a new Samsung Galaxy watch sometime after you are comfortable with your new Android phone - have exhausted all avenues of phone tuning and use - then dedicate time to learning to set it up - learn over time, don't rush it.

There still isn't a good set of killer apps / integration for watches and devices, although from time to time I see something interesting, it's not enough to motivate me to get one. Without custom programming on both sides, certainly possible if you want to spend the time, I don't see anything useful in smartwatches, yet and consider them a huge waste of money.

Think about it, if you were to be shown a non-digital watch for the same price as the Apple Watch, say $400, would you be interested in spending that much on a watch? Most people limit their watch expenses to right around $50 or $100, so 4x as much "just to tell time" seems excessive.

Besides, real Micky Mouse faced watches are much nicer. :)

I think we are going to be in for some surprises in the next couple of years. Steve Jobs’ vision is running dry. Only a matter of time before Apple’s lack of innovation becomes problematic. Apple has shifted all of their credibility into the iPhone market. MacBooks and the Mac Pro have become jokes.

Like others, I am tied by my ..lls to Apple’s ecosystem - movies, music, Apple TV. My wife and daughters find the iPhones easier to understand and navigate. I find the iPhone UI boring and tired as it really hasn’t changed since the 2007 iPhone. Being a phone-whore, I have Pixels and Note 8s. I had a Note 7 but was required by law to part with it. Different strokes for different folks. All in all, the smartphone market has plateaued. Do we really need more optimized CPUs to open Facebook? Do we really want to use our smartphones as gaming PCs - I actually keep tabs on battery health. Running battery down to zero repeatedly over time isn’t good.

Finally, I am tired of the Apple CEO’s politics and how he has some form of right to dictate moral behaviors on others. I would drop my iPhone altogether if for no other reason a better alternative existed. Simple elements are what I want in my phone. Like a voicemail app that doesn’t feel cheap to use, or biasing from the carrier because they prefer Apple products. How do I know this - try swapping SIMs regularly between iPhone and android. Nothing excites me more than spending an hour on the phone with customer service trying to explain to them how to do their jobs.

I have watched youtube speed tests and my 6s beat the samsung galaxy 8 in speed tests, the 8 beats the 9 handily. Yep, you can customize android but that in itself creates problems. I just like the stability and speed / snappiness of my iPhone. Grandesbollas, I am sort of in the same boat, my wife, my two sons, and myself are all on apple portables. We do however run full Microsoft based computers (besides my oldest son who has an image to maintain), so I have 3 of our systems all tuned into MS with all the apps, etc. The other thing is that dell (our preferred computer company), has mobile connect and that works great with iPhone too. I don't need to play games on an android phone on the screen of my computer. As long as I get notifications, and can send/receive calls and texts I am good. Apple is granting Dell more access to their IOS system now to with added mobile connect features. So, I can do everything I want with my microsoft'ed iPhone and dell notebooks. We do use apple music as we all can be on one plan for 14 bucks a month. I use Roku for streaming, Not apple tv, and like I said, Microsofts suite of software for everything else. Either way, we are very happy with our purchases, the watches are like nothing else. Having connectivity without carrying your phone is AWESOME!

I have owned android phones in the past and Its the reason I moved to windows mobile. I just did not like it. Thought I would give it another go, but in the end, the apple phone ecosystem is what I like (second best). I loved my windows phones but Microsoft put the kybosh on that.

As for spending 400 bucks on a watch. I have spent 10 x that on watches actually. I have 2 Rolexes, a breitling, a Hamilton and a yaffle of others. The apple watch is really cool. I was using a garmin vivofit before the apple watch, and it's not even in the same ballpark for functionality. Everything ties together much better with the apple system working together. Now, if they could only get their crap together and build a macbook pro 2 in 1 and a touch screen imac, they may get more of my money. !

Ahh, you have too much money, that explains it. :)

For most people spending $400 on watch isn't within the realm of consideration, and that's why the Apple watch has failed, it's way too expensive - and it doesn't do much either, years later it's still not something I'd recommend.

For some reason the iphone price slowing edging up has only recently offended buyers enough to stop upgrading at the same pace. People have really gotten lulled into spending way too much for a smartphone.

I don't understand the problem you've had with Android though, they run aok even without customization, and I run mine these days with a standard OS - no custom ROM or otherwise rooted - Android has added enough hooks to do what I need to do without rooting.

Stopping Apple use has saved a lot of money on iTunes as well, we were wasting a lot of money on that, and Netfix / The Library fill the need well enough for far less cost.

Glad you are having fun with your new purchases :)

I just dont find it is as cohesive as IOS. I don't rent movies etc with iTunes, I only pay for apple music as my entire family daisy chain off the same subscription. I used to own two very successful construction businesses. I sold them off and put my money into a new venture that did not work out like I wanted it to in my area. So I shut it down. We are downsizing our home, streamlining our lives and having more US time now. The ole funds do not flow in like it used to thats for sure. However, I am not selling my previous acquisitions ha ha. We use Netflix...again, we daisy chain off the same subscription there too. We are pretty streamlined for spending as a family. However, our monthly mobile bill is over 300 bucks. ha ha.!

As I mentioned before, I was waiting to see my friend who I buy all my phones etc from, I was using the new note 9, it was still choppy when scrolling, the stylus was wonky at best, and the only positive I could take away from was the AWESOME screen. The rest my iPhone did better.

There is no debating, Apple's iphone processors are second to none and Qualcomm cannot begin to compete with them. They've barely caught up to the A10, nevermind the A11 or upcoming A12. Combined with the performance freak that is iOS 12, the devices from A9 and up just fly through everything. A9 doesn't even begin to feel slow, even though it is 3 years old. I've never been able to say that about an android device. The whole radio slowdown started with the iphone 7, iphone SE/6S did not have this problem because they used qualcomm radios throughout. When they began to split between qualcomm and intel, their BS slowdown game began. I hope you got the Verzion/Sprint iPhone 8, as it has the better cell radio in it. I only went for the intel version because I got it on a buy one get one promo, so the price was way too good to pass up. My only problem with apple is content management; itunes is straight up cancer

Our mobile bill is 110$ a month for 4 lines including tax, I can't fathom a 300$ cell bill....

What I will debate is whether that makes one iota of difference in day to day use, it doesn't.

Side by side my Android usage beats Apple iphone usage every time I've been in such a situation. I get there first, with the answer and other info before the other person is even out of the gate.

Skills outweigh hardware performance for interactive use every time. :)

I was looking for a Samsung Note 9 vs iphone X performance, but this is the closest so far... I'll update later when I find one specifically for performance SuperSaf TV usually has one up quickly upon new flagship phone releases...

Except in benchmarks where the Axx CPU wins, the speed to bring up app's and browsers on iphone 6, 7, 8 have been a draw between them and the top Android phones.

The actual usage masks any advantage that shows up in CPU benchmarks. Unless you "live" in Geekbench, it's not going to be noticeable in everyday use.

Geez, that's insane, $1200 cdn is $925 USD, wow... time to get a dog sled team for heating at night?

$300/mo mobile is high too, but that's probably mostly monthly charges for new phones... I'd be calling every month to knock $ off the bill, there's always something to negotiate - and often new specials come up that really can drop down the bill.

They must have heard you have "Rolex's" and bumped up the suction on your bill. ;)

OK. I have a 2 year warranty, so I don't really care about a few logic boards.

On another note, comparing the speed, screen and camera to our old 6s, the 8 is MUCH improved. I love the size of the 8, and it's familiar so we are very happy with our purchases.

Well after having used the 8 for a few days, the battery life is amazing. I spent from 9 am until right now as I type this at 7:45 pm, used my phone about a moderate amount, and still have 81% of my battery left. That’s pretty damn good. iOS 12 is going to be awesome.

I just picked up an 8 Plus for myself, used. It was only a week old (warranty expiration date august 26, 2019) and for the price of 450$? Total steal, I went for it. Battery life is epic, identical usage style as my SE only drops me 10% the entire day. It's insane. I'm just trying to get used to such a large device, it really makes me miss my SE sometimes.

The size is why we never went with the plus. The normal 8 is perfect for our use. My wife, while using her 6s, by lunch time would be down to 60-50 percent battery life. Now, on her 8, She's at 70-60 at the end of the day. Supposedly IOS 12 will be much faster and use less battery again. That will be great all around!

I still believe that mid range phones are the smart buy for sure. We just went with apple because our entire family is tied into the IOS platform and it was just easier to get new iphones instead of the LG devices.

Use iOS 12 beta 11. Its quite stable and can last 4-5 days with 9-10hrs on active use. If active times are more than 12 hrs, it can last a day and a half with 20% left on iphone 7.
Use 3utools to flash new iOS12 while retaining user data.

I also am on iOS 12 beta, have been since developer beta 1. Has been very solid for me since day 1, just a few weird quirks that have been ironed out. One thing I don't like is how the picture messaging through imessage changed from ios 11, it is annoying now in ios12. However, performance has greatly improved, it is still buttery smooth on my iphone SE, which is incredible considering this is now the 4th installment of an iOS on that device (9->10->11-> 12). I think ios11 was just the beta for ios 12 lol

My mom uses an iPhone. In India lot of services are charged extra or unavailable most of the time. iOS 12 is miles ahead of iOS 11 if Apple doesn't wreck it at launch like Microsoft.
I'm switching to Android phone from my WP and transition isn't progressing smoothly.

Different parts of the world are different. I have my iPhone Microsoft'ed. I use all Microsoft services on my iPhone. Also, the iPhone and Dell computers work great together with mobile connect. I can make and receive calls, send and receive texts/imessage, and upcoming soon I will have a lot of new notifications and features. I would never be able to goto android now. Our entire family uses iphones and it makes for easy and fast access to each other with minimal fuss.

I'm waiting for the Apple event next week. New phones will be released which will mean that the prices of iPhone 8 go down.
My 6s is in really good shape still but native QI charging (I have charging case now) and water resistance are tempting.

Choosing between 8 and 8+ however... that will be a hard one. I'm now carrying both 6s and 6s+ since I have separate personal and work phones, so I'm familiar with the sizes.

Yes IPhone 8 is the better option if you want to keep using an iPhone. Don’t be deceived by Apples “budget” phone, the IPhone XR. For $749 you are getting a sub par screen by today’s standards... 326ppi. There is no fast charging facilities. Also doesn’t it look like all they’ve done is slap the front portion of the iPhone X on an iPhone 8 base and then called it “innovation”.

I was looking at the q stylo + and the q6. Both of them have pretty well every option the iPhone 8 has minus the wireless charging ( which is available with a kit).

LG Q stylus seems the better option.

The q stylo plus is the same as the q stylus. I was looking at the q6 for my wife, but no issues now
