I guess this applies to any tablet/smart phone.

What's the "fastest" charger I could get? I believe the default adapter is a 2A/5V output, and I've seen some on eBay listed as being 2.4A

Anything more powerful than these around? I dislike the long charge times, so I'm shopping around for an AC wall adapter that will really pump out the juice very fast.

If you phone/tablet with an snapdragon 805 or later you can get an " Qualcomm 3.0 quickcharge" check the website below for compatibility.

Otherwise no matter how many amps a usb charger has, it is limited to the maximum current set inside the tablet/phone by the manufacture, also a lot of manufactures code there usb chargers so their tablet/phones can detect a charger that can provide enough ma to enable a fast charge, otherwise no matter how powerful the charger you might buy, you might be limiter to 1000ma or less.

I think it depends on the SoC TBH. My Sony Z3V doesn't officially support Qualcomm quick charge, but the Snapdragon 801 does support it. I can fully charge my Sony Z3V from near dead to 100% in less than 2 hours. I just use my Nexus 7 2.1 amp brick/USB cable.

Quick Charge is Qualcomm's proprietary rapid charging technology. Samsung named theirs Adaptive Fast Charging, but I believe your device would need an Exynos 7 series SoC, Exynos 5433 included, in order to be compliant. Consequently, the Exynos 5420 variant takes longer to charge than the Snapdragon 800 Tab S, which supports Quick Charge 2.0. Unless your bundled charger lacks support for rapid charging technology that the device supports, no third party charger can make your device charge faster as the PMIC can't be forced to accept more current than what it's rated for.
Software can also inhibit a charger and SoC that support the same rapid charging specification from talking together. The OnePlus One had Quick Charge enabled through a CM nightly update back in July.

An interesting explanation on why your included charger charges faster than virtually any other third-party one.

Also i have been reading teardowns of a lot of usb chargers and there are a lot of fake versions of popular chargers and a lot of fakes only provide 50% of the labeled ma and the voltage is extremely noisy that can damage your tablet or lock it up while charging, also a lot of the fakes were very unsafe to use as they dont follow the CE and UL standard.

Also it can be very hard to visually spot some fakes, so buy from the manufactures website when you can, or a trusted retailer.

Yes, having read up a bit more, it does appear that often times, after-market ("fake") chargers are inadequate. The cables are often thin and cheap, and can't carry enough current, no matter what the wall plug puts out. Then there's the fact a lot of phones automatically detect what they're plugged into, and adjust their power draw during charging accordingly.

So yes, it appears the fastest charger is the one your phone came with, with maybe the only upgrade being a better/thicker USB cable, depending on what was bundled. This is probably a bigger issue if you're buying a phone used, as people often lose chargers/cables and buy cheap replacements.

On a side note, my Galaxy S5 using its default charger got 40% charge in 30 minutes.

    Is that good/bad? Average?

Sounds like you battery is 50% dead, if you put 40% in 30min, S5 battery is 2800mah / 100 =28mah per every 1% so 40 x 28 = 1120ma in 30mins, so that means you charging at 2260ma an hour, but chargers are only approx 80% efficient, so that`s 2712ma an hour.

How many amps is you S5 charger? :D

Does the S5 have an Qualcomm quick charger

It's the default 2A Samsung charger, and I believe it does have Quick Charge - it's pretty much the only way you'll get 40% charge in 30 minutes from what I understand. The S5 has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor.

So you already had the fastest charger, you did not really need to start this thread.

Not really, I learned some interesting things from this thread - such as the fact I already had the fastest charger, of course.

Wouldn't have learned that if I hadn't started this thread.

If anybody is interested in the electronics that is inside chargers, and how poorly made and dangerous the fakes are, click on the link below.

On fakes it seems you are in a lot more danger if your country uses 220volt A./C other than 110volts A/C as a lot of the fake chargers have isolation problems, that you could get a nasty or potentially fatal shock.
