Anyone have one? I finally pulled the trigger on a Jump upgrade from my Note 5 to the 10 today. It's back ordered (apparently T-Mobile drastically underestimated how well it would sell, none of the stores can keep it on the shelves and T-Mobile doesn't even have a date for when they will get stock) but my Note 5 just isn't doing it anymore. Going from 5.7in to 5.2in will be an adjustment but the M8 was the best Android phone I've ever had (and I have had plenty - the HTC Hero, HTC Evo 4G, HTC Inspire 4G, Samsung Captivate, MyTouch 4G, LG G2x (the reason I'll never own another LG device), HTC Sensation 4G, Droid RAZR MAXX, Samsung Galaxy S III, Samsung Galaxy S4 (for less than a day), HTC One (M7), HTC One (M8), Nexus 6, and my current Samsung Galaxy Note 5) and the only reason I skipped the M9 is because of the Snapdragon 810 (well my Exynos 7420 isn't any better in the heat and throttle department).

I'm excited to have Sense, S-OFF, expandable storage, adoptable storage, and a developer friendly device (Qualcomm extensively documents their architectures for developers while Samsung does not which means that Qualcomm devices get the goodies like AOSP, CyanogenMod, killer kernels, etc), and a device that can flash ROMs and radios from any variant (except Sprint) without having to jump through hoops - and that sweet, sweet Snapdragon 820 goodness. I'm not a camera snob but the camera seems quite capable anyway. BoomSound I've learned to live without but it's exciting as well.

I'll be using ElementalX kernel so there will be no worries about security problems. That's why I love HTC. Officially sanctioned development - HTC doesn't even void your warranty for unlocking anymore. I'll be going the S-OFF route anyway though which means I can restore it back to out of the box stock and remove all traces to it ever being modified anyway.

The HTC 10 unfortunately hasn't arrived at Singapore's shores yet, but I know that's the device I'm getting, nothing else. I can't stand Samsung's devices; tried out the LG G5 and wasn't really impressed by it. This'll be my third HTC phone, and I'm happy to say that this time, HTC really has a winner.

T-Mobile just charged me today, should be here in a few days (since it was back ordered I wasn't going to pay 25 bucks for next day air). Grabbed a dual TPU and hard plastic case for it off Amazon for 8 bucks. Waiting to see if UAG comes out with a case for it but I need to be protected in the meantime. Was going to get an Incipio Dualpro but 30 bucks vs 8 for basically the same thing only the latter having a basketball grip all along the back instead of being slick like the Incipio sways my decision in favor of the latter.

Just got off the phone with T-Mobile. Phone is basically waiting to be loaded at the dock and then it will be on its way today. I'm annoyed they didn't get it out yesterday (since they charged me yesterday) and now I'm not getting it til next week but at least it's shipping. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise it's not going to be here this week though. If it showed up Thursday it would be sitting on my porch since I have a therapy appointment downtown that will keep me out of the house for 3 hours or so. I just can't wait to get rid of this stupid Samsung Note 5!

    @Ethrem

I was just about to order an HTC 10 then I saw this: http://forums.androidcentral.com/htc-10/676169-real-life-battery-life-4.html#post5212328

That's the reason I sold my Galaxy S7 despite loving the phone, horrible battery life... Seems like Android phones suck when it comes to battery life ever since Lollipop......

I remember my Note 4 had a superb 2 day battery life when it was on Kit Kat then that was 1 day max after the lollipop update....... This doze feature is a big gimmick as it didn't help me at all neither with my Nexus 6P nor the S7

I love Android way more than iOS and want to get an Android phone again. All I want is good battery life without having to turn off all the features that some suggest totally defeating the purpose of having a smart phone

Another thing bro, this phone doesn't have 60 FPS video @ 1080P?? Does it have 60 FPS video @ 720P at least?

    I think it does @ 720P.

But one thing is for sure, for anyone who wants a flawless camera this is not for them. This phone is for nutjobs like me who barely use the camera and want full modding control over the phone. Plus that new DAC is sweeeet!

Just saw this on GSM Arena: 2160p@30fps, 720p@120fps, HDR, stereo sound rec

my iPhone SE can do up to 120 FPS @ 1080p when using the awesome app called Pro Camera.

Guess I'll skip on ths HTC 10 as having a great camera is important to me since that's the only camera I use

Yeah thats why i suggested the S7 to a friend of mine as well. Camera's have almost never been a strong suit with HTC's.

There's a big bug in the current Broadcom driver in the kernel that causes massive power drain when WiFi is enabled. 2.5-3% per hour or so. LTE standby is like 1% or less.

It has an LCD so naturally screen on time is going to be affected. There also appears to be a higher power consumption with the Sharp display than the Tianma display.

I ordered it (waiting for UPS right now actually) because my Note 5 battery started draining around 30% doing nothing and since I tripped KNOX they'd reject it for warranty replacement whereas Jump goes to a third party who refurbishes and sells them, Knox void or not.

There's also some questions about the current S-OFF method breaking the kernel which is being investigated but from what I've seen, disabling WiFi entirely (including WiFi scanning when WiFi is off) gives a large boost to battery. I'm sure HTC will push a fix to US unlocked and WWE soon and I'm considering changing my T-Mobile to the US unlocked CID and software for more timely updates and no T-Mobile bloat anyway. Since it uses systemless root, we just need to flash the stock recovery and OTAS work properly again.

There's talk of a mod for it but no, no native support as of now. Not a big deal to me, I never go anywhere that would involve taking video.

I'm confused, what's with the screens? does this phone come in 2 screen flavors or what? Talking about the Sharp vs Tianma display you mentioned.

PS: Can't wait for your review

HTC has a long tradition of using two different display manufacturers to source their screens... I'm praying I get a Tianma because the Sharp has a lot of problems. Apparently the Sharp is rare in carrier versions though so I might be looking at a pink tint that goes away as the glue cures the first few weeks at the worst.

oh snap, that's similar to chip gate on Apple phones with the 6S where you wouldn't know if you'd get a TSMC CPU or a Samsung one, the latter consumes more battery and overheats like no tomorrow. Speaking from personal experience.

So there is no way of knowing which screen you'll get before actually opening the phone? that really sucks man because over here in Dubai, you can't exchange your phone unless it's not working, not because you want a diff. CPU or screen because to the retailer, your phone is working.

Yeah we tried narrowing it down by serial numbers but unfortunately all factories are using both panels. Sharp panels are much rarer than Tianma though by what looks to be a 5:1 ratio.

    @Phoenix

Well its a Tianma panel and I *LOVE* it! No pink, its so bright when the HTC logo comes on that it blinds me, the colors are much more accurate than AMOLED (and customizable) and for an LCD, its blacks are really deep black. No backlight bleed to speak of which is amazing.

On the more negative side of things, my device falls behind the LG G5 in benchmarks by a good margin which shouldn't be the case. Its possible that my PVS bin is bad causing my chip to run hot and throttle faster but I think its more the T-Mobile software so I'm going through the process of unlocking through HTCdev, paying 25 bucks for S-OFF, and turning my phone into a US unlocked edition phone.

With that said, it benches twice as fast as my Note 5 did so... Massive upgrade even if its not the best PVS bin chip.

Yeah HTC is way behind. They underestimated the actual demand for the 10. Now that it has the polished looks rather than the big ugly bezels and the ugly speakers (they really were quite ugly) and it has the high end specs, nobody can keep it in stock.

Well with Samsung encrypting their US devices, even T-Mobile, developers jumped on the HTC. For awhile the LG G5 was thought to be impossible to root as well. That was quickly overcome but the G5 is inferior to the HTC in many ways. AT&T made a stupid decision when they decided not to carry this phone...

I just called AXIOM Telecom and spoke to a sales rep. I told him that I am interested in buying an HTC 10 but I am concerned about the type of screen panel so if I buy it and it has the Sharp panel instead of the Tianma panel that I want, can I get a refund? He's like, wait let me check......

then he comes back to me 2 mins later and goes "sir, it has a QHD display"

I'm like duhhh, I know that I want to know who is the panel manufactured by and for that, I need to open the phone and install an app to be able to tell.....

then he goes "here is the number of the technical department......."

I'm like NO!! not even they would know that! I have to open the phone and use it to be able to tell! What I'm asking is can I get a refund if it doesn't have the specs that I want...... He's like I don't know sir I am not an expert in HTC phones

that's when I gave up and thought it's better talking to a wall than talking to these muppets.....

Well my phone is an HT657 (HTC Toayuan A factory, May 7th 2016) and it appears that the May serial numbers are less likely to have issues but that's not a guarantee. With that said, HTC should be able to swap out a defective phone under the warranty for the screen (I don't know the warranty in Dubai though, worth looking into) and some of the Sharp panels are so bad that it would be impossible to miss.

I'd find a place that will let you take it out of the box and try it out. I mean they would probably want to know if they're selling a defective product too, especially with the price tag it comes with.

Leaving my phone while I slept, idle on Wi-Fi and LTE, it lost the battery at a rate of 2.4% per hour which is better than what my Note 5 was doing. Much better actually. That's running the same apps I ran on my Note (I always transfer my apps and data from phone to phone with titanium backup).

If I turned off Wi-Fi it would probably be better and this is only the first full charge so it's bound to get better.

The US unlocked software is much smoother than the T-Mobile software as well. I'm also kind of liking the TouchPal keyboard it comes with and haven't even bothered with swift key yet.

That 2.4% was overall usage and I used it for an hour before I went to sleep too playing games so that factors in as well.

Eh it works fine out of the box but with HTC removing all of their trademark apps (why HTC, why?!) it's certainly more towards the Nexus crowd than the iPhone and Samsung crowd.

well you tempted me so much that I went out and bought an unlocked HTC 10 for $650. They gave me a free Samsung Wireless Charger with it although I don't know, does this phone support wireless charging and shall I use that Samsung wireless charger with it or not as it may have diff. wattage and may damage the battery?

The phone at the store I checked has the Tianma Panel. They wouldn't let me open this phone to check but I hope it's also the Tianma like the one in the store I tried.

Review ill come in a few days

I dont think the HTC 10 has the wireless charging.
But whyd you get the 10 bruh!
I personally go for HTC because i can control every system level aspect of it after S-OFF. Not so much with Samsung S7. But if i had to get a phone which works great and has a great camera, i would have gotten a S7.

dude I just sold the S7, its standby time, just like most Samsung phones sucks big time. Charge the phone to a 100%, then leave it for an hour without touching it, with all apps and background refresh off and doze on for all apps, and watch the battery drain like no tomorrow

Congratulations man! I actually just made my first call and damn I forgot how nice the call quality is with these speakers. It made being on hold actually bearable. The speakerphone purely uses the tweeter so it's LOUD, we are talking about louder than a Blackberry and that is at half volume. Full volume would have blasted my ears off.

There is unfortunately no wireless charging on the 10 and it uses USB type C so make sure you have cables. I'm personally happy about the change to type C - I have gone through so many micro USB cables it's not even funny. Whoever thought that having a charging solution that relies on two tiny teeth making a connection was a good idea should be shot.

That's first charge, 11 hours since unplugged. I use auto brightness but adjust it a bit lower than stock. That's not bad battery life considering that includes a good hour of gaming.

Also the power saver mode doesn't really slow the phone down that much, unlike previous iterations of that tech. I personally don't care much about it. And again my battery usage because of Wi-Fi is quite high. Maybe if I set the phone to HSPA only instead of letting it idle on LTE it will go down a bit.

Oh yeah and NBR kills the battery. It constantly refreshes just like it did on the Note. I might need to look into another browser for NBR. I don't like using Tapatalk.

AnTuTu. You can grab it from the play store. That's what everyone uses. Mine scores 122k on the stock kernel. For comparison, I got 64k on the Note 5

It's really not that important lol. Let the phone cool down and you might get a higher score. All of these new chips throttle themselves. Honestly though they handle anything you throw at them. Benchmarks are becoming less and less relevant. I've never used a phone this zippy, not even an iPhone.

Oh snap! I didn't know that this phone had a 32GB/64GB flavor so I just bought whatever they had at the store and it turns out to be it's a 32GB. I have a 200GB SD card though.

    What capacity is your phone?

PS: I have the Carbon Gray color BTW

I have the only one T-Mobile carries. 32GB glacial silver. The nice thing about this phone is it has native adoptable storage so if you want to use your SD card to store apps, it's just a matter of choosing the option under storage. It's the only flagship with it out of the box.

However with how fast the NAND is in this thing, I wouldn't go the adoptable storage route and just keep the apps on the phone and media on the storage card.

I usually install all apps on the phone and also let the camera store pics on the phone, then weekly, I move all the newly taken pics to my pics folder on the SD card which also contains my music library.

Why you may ask? because it's best for performance as the phone's memory would always be faster than any SD card so it helps with high quality videos and whatnot.

I will run another benchmark once my phone has settled in and charged. I had to update like freakin' 20+ apps in addition to the OS update which fixes the camera bugs

Well I wouldn't count too much on undervolting, flar2 who makes the absolute best kernel around (elementalx) says he's not going to risk introducing instability with undervolting added. With that said, his kernel fixes some core balancing problems HTC has out of the box in their code so benchmarks should get a nice boost with it anyway.

Hold down an empty space on the screen and hit manage homescreen pages ;)

yeah I don't want to do any custom stuff now or undervolt, let me use the phone for a while to ensure it's working fine before I mess with it.

Thanks for the tip about the homes screen pages. This is my first HTC phone so sorry for the many n00b questions.

Pinch the screen like its a perky nipple and you will get more homescreen options.
