850 bucks for an easier to break screen and IP68 rating and still 4GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 820 is a big no.

It's too bad they didn't wait it out just a little longer and upgrade the CPU/GPU.

The larger screen, 64GB, and stylus would be nice, but with the same CPU/GPU and same battery (did they mention if it's larger capacity?), seems like a modest upgrade worth the $100.

Next year, $1k flagship phones  :D

Its 3500mAh battery. Still though, 64GB of storage is meh when you can add a micro SD, the OnePlus 3 has 6GB of RAM so there's no excuse for the Note having 4GB still, and the screen size is nice but the edge display irks me. Its basically an S7 Edge with an S-Pen. No thanks.

The Edge display and actions can be disabled, I ran it that way when I first got the S7 Edge.

Odd that the Note 7's battery is 100mah smaller than the S7 Edge, 3500mah vs 3600mah.

This article has a nice table for specification comparisons:

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 specs vs. S7 Edge, Moto Z, iPhone 6S Plus and OnePlus 3

I don't like the edge display because it adds an additional amount of fragility. I probably would use some of the edge features like the colors for when certain people call or whatever but the phones are already thin and easy to drop and the edge just makes it harder to find a case that protects the phones while still allowing you to actually use the damn thing.

Samsung doesn't sell it any longer, at least it's not on their site, but I got a slim case that uses NFC to send messages to the cover to display Time / Call / Email / Messages / CallerID, and flipping open/closed turns on/off the phone display.

That case also has plastic rails around the exposed edge to protect the glass, and I can hold the case in hand using those clear plastic rails and not "engage" the edge selection accidentally.

A wider display, flat, with pop out "edge" menu's might be more ergonomic, but I have gotten used to the Edge's :)

It just seems pointless to put the edge display on a device aimed at professionals. I guess we will see how well it sells. I'm probably going to keep my HTC 10 unless the Nexus interests me. If the Nexus interests me I'm going to trade my phone in at T-Mobile for their cheapest, pay it off in full, them remove Jump from my account and buy the Nexus and save 43 bucks a month on my bill. It's kind of getting to the point where I don't want the latest and greatest anymore, I just want something that does what I need it to, not something that does it 5% faster than it used to.

No root, no sale. I'm not spending 850 on a device with an encrypted bootloader (confirmed for T-Mobile).

I'm pretty sure this is my next phone. Really excited about the reviews I've read so far. I'm eligible for new phone on 10/4/16, and with an $850 price tag, I definitely would be taking advantage of my carrier's interest-free installment plan instead of paying cash for this baby.

With Samsung offering new phones every six months (the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note serieses being on staggered one-year update cycles), I don't think "wait until the next-gen SOCs are out" is the best strategy. Each year there's going to be a Samsung phone released less than six months before the next-gen SOCs are out; that's just the nature of the beast.

The stylus silo is probably cutting into battery space?

Yeah, Samsung generally uses the Snapdragon in the US and Canada variants. The reason they lock the NA variants down so much is likely because they don't want anyone to be running anything other than LagWiz and since they don't release developer documentation for their Exynos chips, it's next to impossible to get CyanogenMod or AOSP working properly on them while the Snapdragon devices have full developer documentation and the Code Aurora Forum straight from Qualcomm that make the process much easier.

Sweet! Battery life and camera quality are both primary concerns for me, and this phone appears to deliver.

I just checked one out in person and it feels much better in the hand than the S7 Edge did to me. I very much approve.

and with the Samsung wireless charger that I have. I just put my phone on it when I'm home and it's full in less than 30 mins since my battery life never seems to drop between 70-60% no matter how much I am using the phone. The screen time on this thing is amazing

I remember you were like me, most important thing is the camera and battery life and man what can I tell you about this camera. it is almost as good as a DSLR camera, every shot you take is super crisp with lots of detail. no need to wait to focus and get that perfect stable image which rarely worked on my previous HTC 10 (no offense to HTC 10 owners)

oh and by the way, this great battery life is with everything but Bluetooth and NFC turned on

Location Services, Always on display showing 4 clocks from around the globe simultaneously (Dubai, Los Angeles, Lagos, and London), battery saver off, you name it

that's how I like to use my phone, to its max potential like it was meant to be used

Yeah I just checked one out today too. I think I might bite. I'm long overdue for a new phone. For work I'm always wanting a tablet to write on, and this will work nicely. It's a bit bigger than I'd like but I think that will be a bonus. I'm just afraid of the fragility of the unit if it's dropped.

You got an update and its not with August patches? Typical Samsung.

By the way, good on you for the screen protector. GG5 scratches easily.

    http://phandroid.com/2016/08/18/samsung-galaxy-note-7-gorilla-glass-5-fails-scratch-test/?v=2

So I know what I'll be avoiding this year - any phone with GG5 because I refuse to use a screen protector. Haven't used one since we had resistive touch panels, not going back.

    Watch this video bro:

The Spigen one I bought is not a glass screen protector.

Also, I feel that Glass Screen protectors deteriorate the touch sensitivity of a screen even when they do fit right. It's an extra thick layer IMO.

It gives better protection but with a phone that already has a Gorilla 5 screen which is sturdier than other screens, plus a good Spigen case which gives good overall protection, I feel that Glass screen protectors are not a must on this phone. Glass screen protectors never did fit perfectly on edge screens anyway

Oh I got the case yesterday it's awesome man. And now, the kickstand is not a flimsy one that breaks easily like the old Spigen cases, it is metallic and feels much sturdier

I will order that glass screen protector but it will be a while before I receive it to tell you how good it is.

Erica Griffin, one of the better reviewers on YouTube (and one who doesn't pull punches...reviewvertisements they're not) reviewed all the official Samsung cases for the Note 7, including that one, here:

Personally, I'm going to use a soft rubberized Spigen case for hiking and outdoors stuff, but I'm going to try going caseless in day-to-day use at least at first. I like the tactile feel of the naked phone.

I'm definitely interested in this phone. I had every Note, starting from the OG. This is the first Note that Samsung didn't change or improve the internal specs on. That worries me. For that reason, I am looking at LG now.

This phone fixes everything the Note 5 wasn't. SD Card slot is back, better S-Pen with the button slightly bumped up so you won't accidently press it while writing, great battery life, the best camera on any smartphone (taken from the S7 / S7 edge), water proof, TouchWiz isn't as ugly and slow as it used to be. Least bloatware amongst any previous Samsung phone....

IMHO, this is the best smartphone of 2016 hands down. There is nothing missing that I wished for.
