Don't people know Apple by now? If you're going to have your Apple product repaired, Apple is really the only one to do it for you.

Nah, screen replacement and fixing misc. things is no problem. But here we actually have a device that is intended for verification - and Apple allowing use of a device that should be locked by replacing it makes the whole thing useless.

I really don't see a problem here. Apple's doing this in namesake of security. And preventing crappy 3rd party people from poking around.

Apple is right on this, just shows how stupid iPhone users are. Bypass security by changing the fingerprint reader with third party hardware or third party unreliable tech? Defeats entire purpose if having that as security.

IMO, Apple should have it if you tamper with security hardware, not only it locks the phone forever, but also wipes it. Really brick it.

That'a a bit extreme to brick your phone on purpose because you dare to tinker with it. Sure, maybe by accident, but a company sending a kill signal to hardware you own? Screw that idea completely.

(But yes, security isn't something to tinker with unless you know full well what you're doing)

I heard that Apple had or is changing the software so this does not happen any more.

Because of the error code, I don't think this was intended by Apple.

Although, if it does hold secure information I wouldn't want a third party (ex. repair shop) to have access to the information.
